About this deal

In a similar vein to the writing, several different creators worked on the art and coloring which gave each comic its own unique look. Despite the pretty cover picture, Patterns in Time is actually a collection of short stories set in the post Korra timeline. Michael Dante DiMartino is an American animation director best known as the cocreator, executive producer, and story editor of the animated TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra , both on Nickelodeon. This anthology was just so wholesome and everything I needed to bridge the gap to more avatar content.

Patterns of Time had a nice balance of stories focused on the extended cast – from a Jinora-centered story where she spends time with Asami and Korra to a surprisingly wholesome comic that follows Bumi and Meelo. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Three stories ( Friends for Life, Lost Pets, and Clearing the Air) were previously released during past years FCBD, while the remaining five are brand new.Michael Dante DiMartino began his training at the Rhode Island School of Design where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Film and Animation Department.

A beautifully illustrated anthology, it was lovely seeing Korra’s first encounter with Naga, Asami interacting with her mother, and Korra and Asami guiding Jinora as she begins to learn more about what defines her as an individual. Before Avatar , Mike worked for twelve years at Film Roman, helping to direct King of the Hill , Family Guy , and Mission Hill in addition to his own animated short, Atomic Love . The books' stories are the first comics in the franchise to include references to the Chronicles of the Avatar novels, such as mentioning the in-universe book Poems of Laghima (known from The Rise of Kyoshi) and Avatar Szeto (whose name and life story were given in The Shadow of Kyoshi). Overall, Patterns of Time is a very fun addition to the Legend of Korra universe – especially for fans already familiar with the entire series.Your favorite characters from Team Avatar and beyond are here in this collection of stories, from the heartwarming to the hilarious. Of course, Korra has a lot of time in the spotlight or even background appearances in comics that center around others.

Weaver's Ball" - In her youth, Korra has to overcome the restrictions of the Southern Water Tribe compound. Some are closer to present day or set after the show like several featuring all the various airbender kids. I loved how distinct each art style was, with some having more of a sketchy look and feel while others felt extremely reminiscent of the aesthetic from the show. I genuinely laughed at a few moments, which is always a good sign for stories set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe. He continues to consult on the ongoing Dark Horse graphic novels that continue the story of Avatar, and is writing the upcoming Legend of Korra graphic novel. The art was generally really, really good and while there wasn't much Korrasami in it, what was there was cute. Weaver's Ball', another fun story about Korra as the young Avatar in training; 'Clearing the Air', about a young Tenzin, and Aang; and 'Cat-Owl's Cradle', the final and longest story, about Meelo and Bumi (Lin Beifong cameos). Skyscrapers" - A young Asami Sato visits her mother Yasuko's engineering office as she plans to build a new skyscraper in Republic City. Goodness it was just a wholesome experience to be able to read more background regarding all of the characters. Wisdom" - In the distant past, a young airbender seeks out Guru Laghima to ask about the quest for wisdom.
