I also felt like I could relate to these characters because they all came from what seems to be an academic creative writing program at college, and then went into the “real world” a little unmoored, kind of drifting and trying to find a path and nail something down, and I don’t know, that all just felt very personal.I really truly think there is a gold mine here in this book I just don't know if it was all thought through or put onto paper as well as it could have been? It is the perfect metaphor for addiction, and while the ghosts are truly and incredibly scary, so is watching Erin completely wreck her life in the course of days, as well as seeing the other Ghost addicts as they spiral all in hopes of seeing a lost loved one again (a woman whose child died of SIDS was especially heartbreaking). But the door to the land of the dead lets through more than just Silas—and, it turns out, it’s not so easily closed. Whether it was the ghosts, the toxic friendships or the sheer wreckage Erin was making of her life, I couldn't look away until I finished. Like, from the synopsis you know Silas is going to kill himself, but that didn’t happen until like 35% in. we have a beautiful exploration of how easy it is to fall into addiction and how difficult it is to recover and "break free.
