About this deal

Ghost Eaters tend to be solitary, and for obvious reasons are likely to run afoul of krewes who object to their diets. A huge gray wolf with luminous eyes and a lame paw comes into the room and proceeds to eviscerate the sleeping apparition. It also has kind of a mushroom tie-in, which is awesome, because as you know, I love mushrooms, and—and I never thought I’d find myself writing this sentence—mushrooms are having a major moment right now. Whenever he needs her she is there, even though his drug addiction is causing her and their friends pain.

Although I didn't necessarily think the story itself was 'scary', Ghost Eaters still has a high creep factor which was heightened by the audiobook. After he had killed another Beastlord, Manglepaw in a challenge, they acknowledged his words as they devoured the fallen Gor. Ghost Eaters are ectophages, mortals who have discovered a way to consume ghosts for Plasm, which they use to prolong their lives.

When one of them overdoses and leaves behind a message, they're left reeling, leading to one bad decision after another. I also felt like I could relate to these characters because they all came from what seems to be an academic creative writing program at college, and then went into the “real world” a little unmoored, kind of drifting and trying to find a path and nail something down, and I don’t know, that all just felt very personal.I really truly think there is a gold mine here in this book I just don't know if it was all thought through or put onto paper as well as it could have been? It is the perfect metaphor for addiction, and while the ghosts are truly and incredibly scary, so is watching Erin completely wreck her life in the course of days, as well as seeing the other Ghost addicts as they spiral all in hopes of seeing a lost loved one again (a woman whose child died of SIDS was especially heartbreaking). But the door to the land of the dead lets through more than just Silas—and, it turns out, it’s not so easily closed. Whether it was the ghosts, the toxic friendships or the sheer wreckage Erin was making of her life, I couldn't look away until I finished. Young Captain Vanders must make a dangerous river journey to rescue missionaries in a remote jungle area of the East Indies.

Like, from the synopsis you know Silas is going to kill himself, but that didn’t happen until like 35% in. we have a beautiful exploration of how easy it is to fall into addiction and how difficult it is to recover and "break free. In the aftermath, he asked Bakhos to teach him his way of war, to assist him in uniting the tribes under his leadership, somewhat intrigued, he agreed, giving him Chaell, the warrior he had saved as a teacher. However, the hauntings didn’t really start until around 50%, and then the stuff above just kinda took me out of it.Clay McLeod Chapman’s guided tour of a shroom-and-gloom ghost world, where everyone is addicted to death, reads like a scared straight program that horrifies you into choosing life.
