About this deal

But even the readings I don’t totally understand still feel very meaningful and powerful, in the way that a very vivid dream often feels meaningful and powerful. She continues positively, as she does with so many cards, that “The Emperor has no shame about armor and shields…the Emperor has no room for shame. Packing and fulfilment is handled by Pauline, Terry and Barbara (Paulines brother and sister) If you wish to contact any of the family, contact details are provided below! Tillie Walden is an award-winning American graphic novelist and comic book artist who has teamed up with the incredible small publishing house Liminal 11.

For the most part The Cosmic Slumber Tarot follows the structure and visual representations of the Rider Waite Smith Tarot – with the Major Arcana cards having more complex and ‘denser’ illustration and the Minor Arcana being somewhat sparer in detail. Though Tillie has renamed the suit of wands/ staves as ‘Torches’, the minor arcana also sticks closely to the traditional Rider Waite set up. By the way, love that Empress card, reminiscent of the Nursing Madonna, paying homage to the history of painting the Virgin Mary breastfeeding baby Jesus. A beautiful collectors edition for fans of Tillie Walden and the phenomenal art work of The Cosmic Slumber, a deck built upon the dreams of the cosmos. Walden’s guidebook, a minute hardcover typical of Liminal 11 productions, is just as warm, open, and welcoming as her cards, and I cannot praise her enough for this. And there are a few cards like that, where the meaning given by Walden is a generally positive affirmation of a more traditional definition, but the image must be looked at through that lens.

Having written this line, I now see that something almost identical to this sentence is used as a promotional tagline for the deck. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. These cards just look amazing in a spread, I thought I would share my deck interview spread with you. She encourages the kind of intuitive reading I was talking about, urging readers to just trust themselves, be thoughtful about it, and practice. With 78 hand-painted cards, each brimming with colors and emotions, this deck comes alive in the hands of those who seek to explore the realms of the unconscious mind.Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centres that host Etsy. Overall, consistently quality cards created to be shuffled, spread, and generally handled for quite a time to come. Of what does the universe dream” is a super interesting spread and I’ve never done one like it before. I also wanted to mention, with this deck being an artistic interpretation of the Tarot, especially in the Minors some of the symbolism and imagery doesn’t intuitively translate to the RWS inspired definitions generally, and those in the guidebook with this deck.

Application of color also means your eyes travel from the pants, up to the hair, and then to the two torches in the upper third of the canvas. The cards themselves are printed very well, I didn't have my magnifying glass out or anything but I looked through whole deck and no mistakes or printing issues that I can tell. Because comic illustrators know how to tell a story, possess a mastery over facial expressions and how to use line work and color to forward that story, you get one heck of a theatrical performance when reading with Cosmic Slumber.I would say that there is some kind of “diversity” in the deck, but I’m no longer sure, first, what that means as a term, and second, if it’s true.

It's like she used bright pastel colors and then muted that, can't really explain since I'm no artist haha) watercolor designs that are descriptive, clearly hand painted/hand drawn while still having great detail. The limited edition of the deck arrives in a round purple tin containing the deck in its own magnetic closure slipcase box and a gorgeous blue embroidered velvet tarot bag if boxes aren’t your thing. Above is an example of the bold color pairing I’m referring to, though it’s from the suit of Pentacles, which we’ll get to later. I have already mentioned the color palette, an early morning neon that is completely in-line with the theme of the deck, but I must also address the line quality of the cards, which, although somewhat inconsistent, still enthralls me as it wraps around these images. The cards measure 70 x 120 mm which is a fairly standard size for a tarot deck – considerably larger than playing cards, but not so outsize that they cannot be handled. The Cosmic Slumber Tarot is an energetic and youthful deck created and illustrated by comic book artist Tillie Walden.
