About this deal

The very simple explanation of why he recruited Jason, because he missed Dick is good enough justification for me. This story took a look at a crime in which the victim was someone Batman knew and how his emotions blinded him. Though, in fairness, I suppose these stories were meant to entertain 12-year-olds, the age I was when I first read them. Most of my comic reading stems from Silver Age fare from Marvel and 2000s era books from both companies. In some respects, Second Chances forms the first of a "Replacement Robin" trilogy that continues in Batman: Death In The Family and Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying.

Nowhere near as weighed down by unnecessary romantic conflict like the issues before it and I loved seeing Jason's joy at being Robin. However the seeming unrelation between the stories as well as the fact that about half of them don't have an ending is very unnerving to me, no matter if this is how comic collections usually operate or not. But while Jason shows great potential to be a hero, he is also a troubled young man, consumed with bitterness and anger. Optar por ler Nightwing: Year One, escrito pelo muito consistente Chuck Dixon, que escreveu também as histórias Year One do primeiro Robin e da Batgirl.Nobody at DC Comics informed me of this, but a collection of all of my BATMAN comic book stories has been published. Robin learns of the villain’s connection to his father and goes out seeking revenge while Batman plays to the boy’s better angels and succeeds.

We get a single issue introducing the new villain, The Mime, who would never appear again aside from an Arkham Asylum mini-series published sixteen years later. I've heard it said that one of the reasons Jason as Robin was a base breaker was because Dick never accepted Jason having the mantle.I prefer Jason as a carefree kid, trying to make the best of a new life, even though on the other side of the comic book page, unknown readers were making plans to kill him. Batman: Second Chances is a collection of some of the earliest post- Crisis stories of Batman (Volume 1). People don't make the connection of Batman visiting the Crime Alley site where Bruce Wayne's parents got shot every year on that very same anniversary? They are two very different kinds of relationships he has with them, but we see how it affects the things he does, and the faith and trust he has in them. My over all thoughts: This is a great collection, full of complex and interesting stories that also give us some pretty in-depth, psychological looks at favorite characters--namely Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and, of course, Jason Todd.

I guess in a way this is the first itteration of Nightwing: Year One, and it's a solid base for what it is. Here he developed his ideas of God, death, and infinity, free of the restrictions of mainstream comics publishers' self-censorship arm, the Comics Code Authority. Batman said that only the kidnappers' footprints would be in the OR because the doctors and nurses would wear paper socks over their shoes.

and then two issues later he's offering a random kid who's significantly younger than Dick and has little/no training a cape? I decided to give Jason Todd another look with the purchase of this collection of stories from the late 80s. This collected edition chronicles some of the key adventures in the short-lived career of Jason Todd, the second Robin, after his origin story was completely rebooted in the wake of Crisis on Infinite Earths. He’s frustrated that Batman adopted another partner so quickly and planted the seeds that Nightwing is a version of Batman who worked through his trauma and came out better on the other side. These tales also show the Batman comics go from the Bronze Age into the modern are in the wake of Batman: Year One.

Ainda assim, a qualidade deste livro é inconsistente de issue para issue, alguns são bastante bons, outros nem tanto, sendo um dos issues, para além de mau, completamente desnecessário para a coleção. It’s a decent story, but more like a one-off, you might have come across during the Bronze Age, not feeling like a stylistic difference from anything pre-Crisis. Second Chances at least offers new and old fans alike their own second chance -- to revisit the short, tragic career of a misunderstood character who once bore the name and insignia of one of the most legendary superheroes in comicdom. His confrontation of Bruce was interesting, but not strong enough or expected enough to actually have an impact. In the mid-1970s, Starlin contributed a cache of stories to the independently published science-fiction anthology Star Reach. It would have been interesting to see what Collins had in mind for Jason going forward if there was a plan to mellow him out a bit, but once Starlin takes over he doubles down and leads us to his eventual fate. Before undergoing surgery meant to remove both his disfigurement and his alternate personality, Two-Face/Harvey Dent is kidnapped by persons unknown. The stories here focus mainly on establishing a grittier tone for the post-Crisis Batman while developing Jason Todd, who served as Robin. For the most part, his work is solid but doesn’t feel like it takes note of Miller’s Year One in any meaningful way.
