About this deal

So while I was reading (or should I say rereading) All Things Wise and Wonderful (James Herriot's third veterinarian memoir omnibus, containing Vets Might Fly and Vet in a Spin), I realised that although it presents the author's wartime experiences training to become a pilot in the RAF (Royal Air Force), the frame narrrative of the author's RAF sessions and experiences, interspersed with and by remembrances of animals both great and small, of cases seen and treated both successfully and unsuccessfully, with both joyful and sometimes sadly tragic outcomes, really does not focus much on the actual horrors of WWII, on Nazi atrocities, on the bombing of England, but generally and primarily on the specific training sessions, on the author's personal experiences trying to learn how to become a pilot (and how, after his training is complete, an old medical issue arrises and proverbially clips James Herriot's wings). Along the way, as the barracks becomes a center of lung infection and depression and James’ crazed flight teacher screams in his ear, Herriot remembers the successes and the heartbreaking failures: the cat who died of cancer on Christmas after delivering her kitten to a safe and loving home; the emergency road-side resuscitation of a Golden Retriever asphyxiating on a rubber ball; the miraculous recovery of a mauled and mutilated dog brought back to life (and a good owner); the adventures of a cat meant for death who instead lives and loves with the Herriot’s – while also attending all village meetings and get togethers; and much more ranging from horrific epidemics of foot-and-mouth to simple stories that revealed the strength and hardship of life and learning.

James just cannot seem to get out of socializing with Bennett, and on one visit, he is so drunk that he forgets that he should not eat hot dogs, and he eats entirely too many of them. Another popular tune is Royal Oak, adapted from a 17th-century English folk tune, "The 29th of May".The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. After long hours of writing, I am enjoying the audiobook, 'All Things Wise and Wonderful,' by James Herriot. He thinks Terence Baileys cow has it but it turns out it just has cowpox which is has gotten from the baby who was just vaccinated for smallpox. Training as an RAF pilot in the smoke and bustle of London is a far cry from James Herriot's day job as a country vet in the Yorkshire Dales.

Read it to my children, to my grandchildren, to my-self more than once and will be reading it to my 85 year old mother next. However, he has noticed that Siegfried doesn’t tell him when some of his newer contraptions don’t work.

This arrangement became widely associated with the hymn after it was included in Songs of Praise (hymnal). A wonderful read for anyone who enjoys the voice of a story teller and doesn't mind getting wrapped up in a variey of stories that leap frog from one chapter to the next. Many of the stories are only loosely based on real events or people, and thus can be considered primarily fiction. But since he never gives details about the condition, when I read the biography that his son wrote about his life, I was surprised to see what he had dealt with for so long.

Gue habis ngebaca buku ini dalam waktu 1 bulan lebih *gue selingin dengan buku lain memang, sangking bosannya*. James Herriot’s stories about his life as a vet in Yorkshire have charmed and delighted millions of readers in the thirty years since his first book If Only They Could Talk was published in 1972.

The surface has a special matte coating, designed for high quality fine art reproduction with giclée technology. For the 1970 science fiction film Beneath the Planet of the Apes, composer Leonard Rosenman composed a discordant version of the hymn, rewritten for a dystopian cult who worship a nuclear bomb. This isn’t just because of the first two books either (although, by now, we have certainly established ourselves as a part of this world). In the midst of World War II, James is training for the Royal Air Force, while going home to Yorkshire whenever possible to see his very pregnant wife, Helen. Readers adored James Herriot's tales of his life as a Yorkshire animal doctor in All Creatures Great and Small and All Things Bright and Beautiful.

I think some of the stories were issued as stand-alone books--I'll try looking for them and adding them. When I get to this volume in reading through the series, I'm tempted to hold my breath and rush through. Martin's Press in New York City, received a copy and arranged to have the first two books published as a single volume in the United States. Each chapter begins with some aspect of Herriot's wartime experiences in the RAF and then usually segues into some remembrance from his veterinary practice. Therefore, if All Things Wise and Wonderful is read by children (and older children above the age of ten or eleven do indeed often read James Herriot) this and a few other similarly problematic storylines might well need to be discussed, as there could be a few uncomfortable questions that arise.Millions of readers have delighted in the wonderful storytelling and everyday miracles of James Herriot in the over thirty years since his delightful animal stories were first introduced to the world. He never feels superior to any living thing, and is ever eager to learn — about animal doctoring, and about his fellow human creature. The family wrote a thank you note that began with a greeting to the vet with a bandage on his finger. Chapters begin with a paragraph or two (sometimes only a sentence or two) about military life and move on to vet stories almost by random word association.
