About this deal

Whenever I read a story featuring this cast, it feels like a warm hug and visiting with old friends. While I enjoyed Holy Island, I wasn't sure how I felt about the romance aspect of the story as I thought it felt a little abrupt.

Mel starts looking at old and cold cases and finally pieces together who has done these vile murders.Don’t get me wrong – the writing is still good; the characters interact with each other in familiar and heart-warming ways, making the bonds they’ve developed over the years and many cases rock solid… or are they? She studied undergraduate and postgraduate Law at King’s College, University of London and then abroad in Paris and Florence.

The crime and investigation didn't grip me at first, but what held my attention was the fantastic characters. This time the reader was well aware of who the murderer was which put a different slant on the story. The whole team are looking for the killer but Mel must stay in the background to not prejudice the case. Melanie is driven to identify this killer and bring him to justice and while the professional in her demands this occur, it’s far personal reasons that provide her motivation and give her cause to be deceptive. What bothered me about this book (and I really loathe being critical because its so readable) is the fact it’s the third book in this fine series to use almost identical plot and character development to drive the story.

every so often it makes sense, but it feels like every book has been based off of this plot for some time now. From the moment LJ Ross’s marvellous series about aristocratic copper DCI Ryan and his close-knit team appeared, I’ve been a huge fan.The 19th instalment in the DCI Ryan series, this fast-paced and punchy crime novel mixes a dark and emotional serial killer murder with an Agatha Christie-style cosy murder. The ideas – the structure, the character, the psychopathy, the ability to fool peers and family for decades, everything, have been used not once, but twice before. Nothing wrong with all that – it’s in keeping with her character and the way in which her sister’s murder has not only torn her family apart, and haunted her for years but also set her on her current career path. Bamburgh was super special - I spent a lot of my childhood up there so I could picture absolutely everything perfectly.
