About this deal

Wanting to follow with an equally explosive documentary Clover decides to go after Kit Foley, Cory's nemesis and the cause of his accident. Foley has left the surfing world and is now focused on snowboarding, where he is making his name known. Clover was a master interviewer, and I marvel at the author's ability to write those scenes. Everything felt like one big, metaphorical chess game—a literal one too (that scene was simultaneously the most/least literally sexy thing I've ever read). Set predominately in the Austrian Alps, this really is a treat of a winter book, I could barely put it down and found myself finding reasons to reach for my kindle at all times of day and night just to read more. I couldn't get enough of the story.

Midnight in the Snow is set in the Austrian Alps in the lead up to Christmas Day. Journalist Clover Phillips is riding high on the success of her documentary on ex-surfing great, Cory Albright - Cory had suffered a near drowning and subsequent brain injury, whilst competing. It was a fantastic build-up of tension between Kit and Clover, seeing as he holds her responsible for ruining his professional life, whereas she lays the blame for the ultimate loss of Cory's life at Kit's feet. Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a wonderfully romantic novel from Karen Swan, bestselling author of The Secret Path, The Christmas Party, and Together by Christmas. In a search to find answers, Clover uncovered something she wasn’t expecting to find. There’s a lesson in that for us, too. This opinion is brought to you by someone notorious for disliking romance, so be prepared to add a star or two if you're into this sappy stuff. :)This is easily another of Karen Swan's best books and I know I said that recently about The Secret Path. This is definitely an author going from strength to strength and so long as she keeps writing books like these then I will be one incredibly happy reader! This is a wondeful wintery take set on the slopes of Austria, and within the fast-paced, thrill-seeking world of snowboarding. This was just the most perfect book to read over the Christmas period, and I found myself utterly immersed in Clover and Kit's story as well as in this incredible well researched and detailed world of competitive snowboarding.

💜 All the feelings – I mean the whole hate-love trope is so agonizingly fun to read about – great plot with all subplots making sense and creating a believeable turnout. Some might be put off by the extent to which the story extended itself past romance. It had so much love in it, don't get me wrong—the love of friends, of family, of persevering, but romantic love factored in quite a bit less than I was expecting. My best friend and I have a tradition going on that we read a cheesy, often also boring christmassy book together - like those really lame christmas hallmark films but in bookform. But also when they're not together in a scene the book is still unputdownable, there is no such thing as unnecessary fillers inbetween, everything is used to propel the story. The setting in the Alps is beautifully atmospheric and subtle, yet so important for the vibe, loved it. Things are never that simple, though, and the way we learn snippets of the truth, throughout the book, alongside the chemistry that steps up a notch, between the interviewer and the interviewee, was fantastic, Now, obviously with this being romance they're destined to fall in love, but damn do they make things difficult! This is an excellent enemies-to-lovers story with a lot of anger and hatred. Clover is incredibly biased and naturally jumps to all the wrong conclusions which can be frustrating, but I still found it gelled well with the story. The hate between these two is deliciously strong.
