About this deal

Undoubtedly it was a very successful exhibition and I felt sad that it seemed unlikely that the exhibition would be seen in the West. Eric Joisel, French origami artist who mastered animal and human forms in complex paper-folded sculptures" (PDF). It is true that most copies were destroyed by bombing during the War, but a few copies certainly do survive.

The great majority of Yoshizawa’s books ere in Japanese and were not easy to obtain in other countries. I was asked to sign the visitors' book, the first entry not in Japanese, and then I had my first sight of the exhibition, being first confronted by two large flying dragons and a large and impressive model of Godzilla. His passion for origami was rekindled in his early 20s, when he was promoted from factory worker to technical draftsman. With the models received, they set an exhibition in Stedjelik Museum, in the city of Amsterdam (Holland). However, it was his work for the January 1952 issue of the magazine Asahi Graph that launched his career, which included the 12 zodiac signs commissioned by a magazine. I first came to know about Yoshizawa and his paperfolding many years ago in 1958, when I read in Robert Harbin's "Paper Magic". Unaccustomed to sitting back on my heels, I somehow managed to fold up my western legs into a reasonably comfortable position which I was just able to maintain.

Legman sends to Lillian Oppenheimer, for the Nueva York Coopers Union Museum exhibition, part of the creations received from Yoshizawa. Yoshizawa was clearly very devoutly attached to this temple in Kyoto, even though he lives many miles away in the Tokyo area As we passed through the burial ground which surrounded the temple, we noticed a plot marked as reserved for him.Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.
