About this deal

It is clear they have had some adventures overseas in the War and are now exhausted, dirty and injured. Things developed for Florence in England and she grows in strength as a person but yet guilt does eat away at her too.

Florence suffered unimaginable trauma and when a devastating secret becomes known to her she was faced with no other choice but to leave the place she loved so much. If you’re a fan of Rachel Hore, Victoria Hislop and Santa Montefiore, I’m sure you’ll love Dinah Jefferies too. A tender, moving and at times heartbreaking story”― SINEAD MORIARTY --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition. Florence and Jack arrive in England filthy and exhausted, she stays at his cottage in Devonshire to recuperate, and she’s wants to visit her mother in the Cotswold's.I did find some of the descriptions to be a bit long, especially of the gardens, the weather and the area around them. The Hidden Palace is the 2nd in the Daughters of War trilogy by Dinah Jefferies and was an excellent read.

I was expecting it to be much more central to the story, rather than a backdrop for a few less important scenes and it had no impact of the narrative of the main theme. I’m interested to see which sister the story will focus on and how does Marrakech fit into the overall plot because it certainly hasn’t been previously mentioned. But they share a common bond and as Florence adjusts to her new life in England at Meadowbrook, Jack’s home, she wonders what direction her life path will now take especially as victory in the war seems to be more than just a far flung ray of hope in the distance, as it had been for so long. She seemed to pop up whenever the plot required her to but her storyline wasn’t taken any further so it felt disjointed. I felt so sorry for Florence as she really needed her mother to be sympathetic to what happened to her in the first book, but no, all she wanted was for Florence to go and find her estranged sister Rosalie in Malta. Il proprietario è Addison, un anziano e ricco inglese, che si è ritirato a vivere da anni nel protettorato britannico. Her romance with a member of the British aristocracy seems doomed to failure but he introduces her to the stunning palace his uncle owned in Mdina.

Although Dinah and her husband spent five wonderful years living in a small 16th Century village in Northern Andalusia, she's happy to say they now live close to her family in Gloucestershire along with two crazy Maine Coon cats. What I enjoyed about this story is the interesting setting that is probably very different than what I've read before in a WW2 Historical Fiction novel. The section of the book about Rosalie felt much faster-paced and I was interested in her journey and liked her straight away.A well written story about the relationship between sisters and why one changes her identity, war, secrets, crime, human trafficking, betrayal, overcoming loss, and finding love. I desperately wanted to know what made Claudette so cold and to not have the loving mother daughter relationship so many of us were privileged to have. I won’t directly address the final third of the book, but it was satisfying to see Florence and Jack traveling and pulling Florence’s family back together. To be honest, it did take me a bit of time to settle into the narrative but I did find the overall story rather interesting.

Riva’s life takes a different direction when she meets two influential men Robert Beresford and his uncle Addison Darnell. Many secrets and lies are exposed through the book and some are resolved but yet the way the book ended has provided plenty of substance and issues to deal with for the final instalment - Night Train to Marrakech. Ik heb me door dit boek geworsteld en mezelf gedwongen om het uit te lezen, alleen maar omdat het deel uitmaakt van een trilogie.

Dinah Jefferies has been a favourite author of mine, since 2014 when her debut novel 'The Separation'. Furthermore, the fact that Rosalie and Florence’s stories were not too many decades apart from each other added a level of suspense whether the two would ever be reunited.
