About this deal

The end result wasn’t perfect but 65% of the Cheerios were captured on a single pass, while the rest were caught in front and pushed ahead like a snow plough.

She's tested a range of cordless vacuums from Dyson, Shark and more, this time turning her attention to the Hoover HF9 to test its suction power and ease of use. With its larger capacity and extra accessories, it’s much better suited to larger homes and more demanding jobs. Hard Floor mode drops the brush bar down to a slower spin speed, reducing the risk of scuffing; it hunted out discarded garlic cloves with ease over our kitchen floor. It's a useful mode to have and one that I enjoy using in especially hair-prone areas, but make sure not to have it turned to 'Boost' all of the time if you're conscious of using up the battery. On the whole, it's got all of the features that make up one of the best cordless vacuums; a lightweight design, tools to get into smaller spaces, and an easy-to-use control panel.Whenever you need to access the brush, the top window pops open for instant access, taking the hassle out of maintenance. You can easily change between Hard Floor mode, when the brush bar spins more slowly to clean delicate surfaces, and Carpet mode when it spins faster to lift up dirt from deep beneath the surface. The more expensive models also include the motorised tool I’ve already mentioned, which looks like a miniaturised floor head with its own spinning roller inside.

Hoover make some big claims with this new launch stating that it ‘has the most powerful suction of all the brand leading vacuums on the market’. Without a soft roller, it’s never going to be the best hard floor cleaner, even though it gives it a good try. It's the most important thing when it comes to any vacuum: just how good it is at picking up all of the debris and dust around your home. The problem with some cordless vacuums is the fact that their suction power leaves a lot to be desired. Whatever type of flooring you have in your home, the highly portable HF9 will tackle the job perfectly.

It has a standard run time of 30 minutes and a run time of 12 minutes on Turbo Boost mode, enough to clean 120sqm, which is ample for most average-sized homes. You’re often lucky to get ten minutes charge out of them and they can’t deal with serious dirt and hair without giving up and dying in a tangled mess. Hoover says HF9 Anti-Twist Pets has the perfect balance of suction power and runtime for cleaning your entire home. While the HF500 is best suited to smaller homes, the HF9 is more versatile and capable of working through larger properties.

It was a simple fluff block and easy to clear but, again, required getting my fingers into the vacuum’s dusty internal crevices.

In fact its efficient power management and powerful brushless motor will clean 120sqm of hard floor and carpet, with no loss of suction, from a single battery pack. For vacuum cleaner recommendations and to see our top picks, have a look at our round-up of the best vacuum cleaners we’ve tested. For one, it has a five-year warranty compared to the three that comes with other models from the brand. Two silicone strips at the back mean you can set the body down horizontally without it falling over. By weighing the collection bin before and after a single pass over the spillage, we can tell exactly how good a vacuum is at picking up in each situation.
