About this deal

However, we strongly recommend calling out a gas safe registered engineer instead of attempting to fix the fault on your own. Professional advice is essential to keep your diverter unit, combi boiler and hot water system working safely and effectively. Vertical radiators do have a flow direction. The direction that they follow is straight through the bottom and out of the other side. The water inside the radiator will take the path of least resistance. The baffle inside the radiator acts as a barrier and this makes the water flow upwards. The likelihood that you’ll be able to do a straight swap from a horizontal radiator to a vertical one is unlikely due to the layout of the existing pipes and the differing dimensions between a vertical and horizontal radiator. However, changing any radiator should really be done by a professional plumber and it will be a fairly easy and straightforward job for them to complete. What am i missing? any help is appreciated as we cant go another Winter with the kitchen being so cold again Hard to make out which valves are on which circuit, and whether the pump is only on the hot water. However, if other radiators get hot likely to be OK.

During the colder months, everybody wants their home to be warm and cosy and for it to stay that way for the duration of winter. When it comes to installing your vertical radiator, the general rule is that it should be mounted 150mm above the skirting in the room. Your floorboards can have an influence over this, however, as it can determine where it is fitted. Hubby thinks that the internal bore must be very small, so as the water is pumped around slowly, it takes that long to reach the other end, that the water has lost its temperature, and is actually cool as it exits. Does this sound reasonable and is this taken into account when calculating the btu's. Or have we just got a duff radiator? By bleeding a radiator the bleeding process will rid any air that has accumulated within the radiator and this can be done using the vent / bleed valve.

In case of recent power outages or seasonal time adjustments, your timer’s settings may have become inaccurate, potentially leading to the problems you’re experiencing. Could it be that your radiator valve is closed? One of the areas which i cannot work out is regarding the pump pictured above - this is not plumbed into the heating circuit, only the hot water. If this is correct then the only central heating pump is the one located in the boiler - what are the circumstances that would mean an additional pump is also required? (like the above but plumbed into the heating circuit). I have tried to annotate the original photo which shows the flows. You can suspect a faulty diverter valve if you experience any of the following with your hot water system: No hot water The flow diverter is designed to ensure all parts of the radiator get as warm or hot as it should be.

And, if you don’t have one already, now is a good time to explore the option of a mid-position diverter valve fitted, which enables to you use your hot water, while keeping your radiators warming up. And for consistently hot water and a warm home, this is an excellent investment to consider! When choosing where to position the radiator, you should choose the coldest part of the room. If you don’t have a particularly cold area of your home, choose a location that saves space and looks aesthetically pleasing. Designer radiators can make a huge statement in your home and become a prominent feature in the rooms of your home, in addition to the fact they are a new component to your home. In turn, this can add value if you decide to sell your property. Due to them saving space, it also helps buyers the ability to picturise the house as their own and how they’d decorate each room. However, if your boiler was installed more than 10 years ago, you may want to consider a new boiler, which will iron out the diverter valve problems as well as run much more efficiently and help to keep those energy bills down. Your gas safe engineer can advise you on the best products and arrange the new replacement boiler installation. Begin by ensuring that your central heating system is switched on and verify that the thermostat is correctly set. The flow diverter is not suitable for use with the Milano Windsor column radiators and the Skye and Aruba Ayre designer radiators. It is also not suitable for use with radiators that have an internal pipe size larger than 36mm.

The two twelve column radiators heat the first six column nearest the flow and eventually heat up across the rest apart the the final quarter. The sixteen column radiator only heats up the eight columns farthest from the flow inlet. Attach the bleed key (vent key) onto the bleed valve (air vent) at the side of the radiator. Use a cloth to catch minor drips unscrew the air vent. Radiator balancing is adjusting the flow of water running through each radiator so that each radiator is running at equal temperatures and takes the same amount of time to reach their operating temperature. The flow diverter fits neatly between the valve and the radiator. It has been made from brass and has a durable chrome finish. If you are experiencing issues with your hot water or central heating and suspect your diverter valve is faulty, then working through the above potential causes can give you a clearer idea as to what is going wrong.I am in the process of having a GSHP installed, hopefully next week. As part of this change from an oil combo boiler to GSHP, the radiators had to be changed for higher out ones to give an oversize factor of 2.4 for 50C flow temperature. Simply put, a diverter valve works by redirecting the water in the combi boiler to respond to your hot water requirements, whether you have just turned on the shower or switched on a radiator. A few years ago the previous owners moved the airing cupboard when they combined two of the bedrooms into one larger room -from what i understand this also meant changing to a pressurised tank a certain degree of re piping - is it possible that they may have plumed the pump incorrectly and this should in the central heating to provide more flow? I have tried everything i can think of but nothing has made any difference. I have bled the whole system for air, removed the radiator and flushed for sludge (none - water was very clean) and also removed both the TRV and needle valve, cleaned reassembled, and also tried balancing the whole system - in fact i have also isolated every other radiator in the system and switched the heating on - this did make a slight improvement to the kitchen rad but it still takes over 1.5 hours to get warm and still has cold spots, but never gets really hot.
