About this deal

There are very few illustrations in this book which I didn't like but a varied range of vocabulary to boost the children's literacy development. She goes to visit her Grandma on holiday but little does she know she is in for a surprise which will teach her to change her ways. Malorie Blackman’s excellent story entertains with humour, perfectly matched with Matt Robinson’s illustrations which superbly bring Ellie and her animal chums to life. Ellie is the rudest, most spoilt child her grandma has ever met and it's time that she learnt a lesson!

A cautionary tale of brats, cats and a little bit of magic from much loved and best-selling author Malorie Blackman, brought to life in a delightfully fun reading by actor Esme Sears. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! A cautionary tale of brats, cats and a little bit of magic from much-loved and bestselling author Malorie Blackman, particularly suitable for struggling, reluctant or dyslexic readers aged 8+. As she starts to make friends with the other animals in the house, the mice and the spiders, Ellie starts to learn how to be a good friend.Tom's scrapbooks are always fascinating, full of photographs, notes and snippets of history that inspire his books, and this one is no different! Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. Published by Barrington Stoke, on cream paper in a dyslexia friendly font, this is pitched to appeal to KS2 children with a younger reading age.

Her work has appeared on screen, with Pig-Heart Boy, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, being adapted into a BAFTA-award-winning TV serial. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. Malorie Blackman mixes comedy with a moral message in this sparky tale of Ellie whose rude, disagreeable behaviour at Grandma’s house leads witchy Grandma to label her a brat and cast a spell on her. So with a little bit of magic and some help from Jolly the cat, Grandma's going to make sure that Ellie changes her ways. Ellie and the Cat is a fun, middle grade story perfect for children just starting to read chapter books. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. Although Jackie looks after Gran's tatty old donkey, Barnaby, she longs to have her own horse like the local boys. Ellie doesn't want to as its just another move she can do without bit her mother insists as her father is going away to another job and she can’t look after her.
