About this deal

The mold was lubricated with petroleum jelly (Vaseline; Unilever, Rotterdam, Netherlands). Cerewax (Istanbul, Turkey) was melted in a heater (Sunburst; New York, USA) and poured into the mold. After 15 minutes, the two compartments of the mold were separated and the wax pattern was removed and placed in 20°C water to prevent the dimensional changes. Therefore, the absence of a chemical bond between inorganic silver particles and silicone structure of the soft liner may be another reason for the reduction in tensile bond strength. Others suggested that reduction in the bond strength, following the addition of SNPs, may be due to the irregularities created in the hybrid layer at the interface of the soft liner and acrylic resin, which can create a place for stress accumulation, and negatively affect the mechanical properties of the bond interface. The denture will usually be fitted as soon as your teeth are removed, which means you won't be without teeth. The denture will fit snugly over your gums and jawbone.

ResultsAddition of SNPs and thermocycling both caused a significant reduction in the tensile bond strength of Mucopren to acrylic resin; however, in the thermocycled group, the bond strength increased with the increase in the concentration of SNPs ( Kimoto S, Kimoto K, Kitamura A, Saita M, Iijima M, Kawai Y. Effect of dentist’s clinical experience on treatment satisfaction of a complete denture. J Oral Rehabil. 2013;40:940–7. https://doi.org/10.1111/joor.12108.Your dentist or clinical dental technician will advise you on whether you should remove your dentures before you go to sleep. The aging of the global population, especially in developed countries, has led to an increase in the number of edentulous patients [ 1, 2]. In dental treatment, complete dentures (CDs) are generally the first choice to restore routine masticatory function in edentulous patients. However, due to the significant alveolar bone resorption and mucosal thinning caused by a range of oral diseases in the elderly, in clinical practice, mandibular CDs cannot be used satisfactorily in many cases owing to movement and pain. Recently, implant-supported overdentures have been considered as one of the options for maintaining and stabilizing dentures [ 3, 4], but due to systemic diseases, inability to visit the hospital, and cost issues, most patients often choose to repair their existing CDs [ 5]. The reline method is generally used for repairing a non-retentive CD. According to the Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms-9 [ 6], relining is defined as a procedure of resurfacing the concave surface of a CD with a new base material to precisely fit the denture base. Relining materials are classified into resilient liners (RLs) and non-resilient liners (NRLs) according to their chemical structure. After your denture has been relined, there should be no need to apply denture adhesive. Instead, a properly performed denture reline will take up space between your gums and the denture, eliminating the need for denture adhesives. Cleaning Denture Liners These resilient lining materials fall into one of two categories: silicone elastomers or plasticized acrylic resins. Hirai T, Ishijima T, Koshino H, Anzai T. Age-related change of masticatory function in complete denture wearers: evaluation by a sieving method with peanuts and a food intake questionnaire method. Int J Prosthodont. 1994;7:454–60.

The investigator, him or herself a dentist, will carefully monitor the occurrence of adverse events. If an adverse event occurs, appropriate measures will be taken and, in principle, the patients will be observed until the event disappears. The type of adverse event, date of occurrence (or date of hospital visit when discovered), details of treatment (continuation, discontinuation, etc.), course of the adverse event, and details of any causal relationship with the resilient liner will be promptly reported to the steering committee. Observations will continue up to 1 year after the application of the resilient liner and will continue throughout the study period. Kimoto S, Yamamoto S, Shinomiya M, Kawai Y. Randomized controlled trial to investigate how acrylic-based resilient liner affects on masticatory ability of complete denture wearers. Between-group comparisons will be made using Student’s t-test or Mann–Whitney U test, depending on the distribution of the outcome. Permanent elasticity ensures high intraoral comfort and relieves critical areas of the oral mucosa.

to acrylic denture base was reported to be a promising method for improving denture longevity and repair strength. Dentures replace missing or damaged teeth. Over a period of time, bone loss occurs and your jaw bone will change its shape because of tooth loss, thus creating space between your jaw and false teeth. With these gradual changes to your jawbone over this time, the dentures that were once a perfect fit may not fit as well. Your general dentist or prosthodontist can walk you through your denture options. They can also help you find a type that works well for you and lasts long. How to Keep Your Dentures in Good Shape The smooth, hydrophilic silicone surface impedes bacteria settling, avoiding infections on the denture-supporting area.

The excellent mechanical properties of the silicone liner (e.g. tear resistance, elongation) ensure easy handling with a high loading capacity. The design of dentures is such that they sit on gums and ill-fitted dentures may rub and irritate your gums and mouth. There are variety of options you can choose for your denture repair that are discussed below. ImageIf any of the following discontinuation criteria are met during the study period, that individual patient will be discontinued promptly at the discretion of the principal/participating investigator: (1) when the subject withdraws consent, (2) when the subject moves to a new hospital due to relocation or stops coming to the hospital for other reasons, (3) when a subject develops symptoms that make it undesirable to start the study, (4) if it is discovered after the start of the study that the subject does not meet the selection criteria or violates the exclusion criteria, and (5) when it is determined that continuation of the study is not desirable for the patient for any other reason. Moreover, studies documented that inorganic materials such as SNPs do not stablish a chemical bond to polymerized materials.
