About this deal

It's a novelty to have this album on vinyl, none of the vinyl pressings come close to delivering the goods like the CD. That's not a bad thing right? I mean the CD is easily the least expensive format to own this on. I like to see you find a fire(unintentional or not) that does not release deadly toxins. I do believe Vinyl may not be completely sustainable but the upkeep of a product should be viewed as a reason to use. Vinyl products have almost no upkeep when used unlike other types of products. The cost of initial and upkeep down road is much lower than most other types. I for one would prefer to have the lower cost with "some frootprint" then a huge cost that won't make a difference in energy in the future. Vinyl chloride can be devastating for human health. According to a 2020 report published in the academic journal Cancer Spectrums, acute exposure to vinyl chloride can cause loss of consciousness, lung and kidney irritation, and, after sustained exposure, a rare form of liver cancer. The study also found that those living within 10 miles of a petrochemical facility face an increased risk of cancer as well as other health issues. The Ohio train derailment saw 38 cars derailed, including 11 containing hazardous materials, forcing hundreds of local residents to evacuate for several days There is no safe way to dispose of vinyl plastic materials, according to Toxic-Free Future. In the research report ‘Vinyl chloride and toxic waste’, the non-profit found that vinyl chloride and PVC plastic plants sent more than 20 million pounds (9,000 tonnes) of chlorinated waste to incinerators in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas in 2021. The incineration of chlorinated chemicals and materials can lead to the formation and release of dioxins. Dioxins are also released during accidental building and landfill fires involving PVC plastic.

Unfortunately, that’s impractical, if not impossible in the short term, because of how deeply rooted industries’ dependence on it is. Most importantly, eco-friendly vinyls have also been certified by the CPSIA as non-toxic and safe even for babies. You can go for this kind of vinyl instead of opting out of the fun and glamour of vinyl crafting. Vinyl chloride toxicity occurs mainly through occupational exposure during the polymerization of VCM into PVC; however, community exposures secondary to industrial spills have occurred. [9] Additionally, there are reports of cases of significant chronic exposure related to aerosol propellant usage in the 1960s and early 1970s, although VCM is no longer utilized in this manner. [3] In the developed world, significant occupational exposures are now rare. However, in developing economies, hepatic angiosarcoma has been documented in workers exposed over the last 10 to 20 years, the typical latent period for HAS, suggesting that significant occupational exposures have continued in some settings. Photograph: John Stillwell/PA Vinyl’s other major chemical components – EDC and VCM – have been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals. VCM is classified as a known human carcinogen, and EDC is a probable human carcinogen. Hazardous by-products are formed throughout the PVC life cycle. At numerous points in the vinyl life cycle, very large quantities of hazardous organochlorine by-products are formed accidentally and released into the environment. But with the growing concern on the impact of toxins on human health and the environment, we must question the materials in our everyday life, vinyl being one of them. As nostalgic as we feel about crafting, safety questions come first.

From Cancer Alley to Your University: Environmental Injustice and the Campaign for PVC-free Schools If you’d still like to craft with craft vinyl but play a part in environmental conservation and being safe, the best way to go around this is to use eco-friendly craft vinyl. Into the mix … PVC pellets used in the production of vinyl records. Photograph: Chris J Ratcliffe/Getty Images But have you ever wondered how toxic this vinyl is? It is common knowledge that craft vinyl is not edible – at least to older kids and adults. But you put it on wine glasses, mason jars, and coffee mugs that go in your dishwashers. You put it on apparel that touches your skin and use it to label things your kids touch everyday.A fire at the same plant last year raised concerns about the potential release of ethylene oxide, but no ‘protective measures’ for the community were advised by officials. And in 2012, a train carrying vinyl chloride – bound for the same plastics plant in New Jersey that was the destination of the Ohio train – derailed and plunged into a creek, releasing 23,000 gallons of the chemical and prompting evacuations of nearby homes. Severe contamination of communities and waterways in the vicinity of VCM production facilities has been documented. In Louisiana, for example, significantly elevated levels of dioxins have been found in the blood of people living near a VCM facility, several communities have been evacuated due to VCM contamination of groundwater, and extremely high levels of highly persistent, bioaccumulative by-products attributable to VCM production have been found in local waterways. Be tested for compliance by a CPSIC-accepted, accredited laboratory, unless subject to an exception.

Oxy Vinyls has a history of accidents and near misses. Only in January, a tornado moved through the heart of the petrochemical industry east of Houston, with Oxy Vinyls’ VCM plant being in the storm’s path as charted by the National Weather Service. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC or vinyl) is the most toxic plastic for our health and the environment. For more than 30 years, leading health, environmental justice, and health-impacted organizations across the country and world have been campaigning to phase out this poison plastic. Vinyl crafts are one of the hottest new hobbies in the craft market. Using different types of vinyl sheets, crafters can make unique designs for use on glass, wood, shirts, jerseys, pillows, bags and just about anything else they can dream up. Finally, large quantities of vinyl are burned in accidental building fires, which release significant amounts of dioxin into the air and into whatever water is used by emergency services to contain the fire. Obviously unintentional fires release many chemicals and gases. But the dioxins they release could be drastically reduced by the replacement of vinyl building products with non-chlorinated materials.

However, HTV materials are never 100% safe. They emit the same toxins into the atmosphere when applied to fabric as from its production to disposal stages. Non-Toxic Craft Vinyl– Does It Exist?
