About this deal

IN FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES In these newly remastered HD filmed adaptations of Georges Simenons bestselling crime novels, international film star Bruno Cremer (The Octopus, Sorcerer) brings the beloved Parisian Inspector Maigret to life. Sporting his pipe that seems a nod to Sherlock Holmes, the pragmatic, reserved, and refined Maigret investigates murders in his singular unhurried manner and inevitably discovers the truth.

A detective who is thoughtful, human, philosophical and deeply interested in people from all walks of life and what drives them. The series has been remastered for HD TV and the picture quality is amazing compared to the original series shown on TV. The first two originally aired in March and December of 2016; the last two in April and December of 2017. The other characters dance around him like complete imbeciles trying to trick him while he smokes his pipe and think that he isn't paying attention. As a result, English subtitles are provided, but this also presents an excellent opportunity to brush up on your old French language skills, assuming you have them! He is well supported by Jack Galloway and James Larkin as Janvier and LaPointe, respectively, with Geoffrey Hutchings giving what is, in my mind, the definitive portrayal of the faithful Sgt. There are two great Maigret adaptations available online or in DVDs from the 1990s, the British version done by Granada for two seasons in 1992, starring Michael Gambon, and the Dune French version that lasted from 1991 until 2005 with Bruno Cremer. In his investigations, from Montmartre to the remote French countryside, Maigret encounters the dark side of life; yet, he calmly maintains an empathetic demeanor as he explores the complex motives that lie behind every crime.

Not only Nigel Hess' beautifully haunting theme music but also the first-rate incidental scores by Hess, John Keane, Ilona Sekacz, and Bill Connor, all well-respected composers. After a suspect shrugs off a lengthy interrogation, Maigret arrives at a three-house crossroads in the country to solve the case of an anonymous corpse found in a car in the wrong garage.

The settings are so authentic 1950s and although it is shot in colour it seems black and white as the scenes are dreary, which adds to the ambience.
