The book is divided into seven chapters, each offering a unique perspective on BTS’s history. Starting from before their debut, the chapters are titled “Seoul,”“Why We Exist,”“Love, Hate, Army,”“Inside Out,”“A Flight That Never Lands,”“The World of BTS,” and “We Are.” Through interviews and personal stories, the members—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—open up about their experiences, struggles, and growth as artists. The book slowly opens up to the journey of Bulletproof Boy Scouts, the initial name of BTS, to how they became Behind the Scene or BTS. The band’s members – Kim Nam-joon (RM), Kim Seok-jin (Jin), Jung Ho-seok (J-Hope), Min Yoon-gi (SUGA/AGUST D), Park Ji-min (Jimin), Kim Tae-hyung (V), and Jeon Jung-kook (Jungkook) – each belong to a different region of South Korea, and met each other for the first time in Seoul. mælk og honning' er en samling digte og tekster, illustreret af Rupi Kaur selv, der handler om vold, overgreb, tab, kærlighed og kvindelighed.

In May 2022, I was travelling in a car to a bubble tea place in New Delhi with three women – all of us BTS ARMYs of different age groups, with different careers – a writer, a law student, a photographer, and a college professor. And all four of us hummed the lyrics to Ddaeng aloud to the music blaring from the car’s speakers and discussed how we found BTS at very different ages – the youngest one at 16. The rest of us, who found BTS in our twenties, wondered how great it would have been to have found them during our teenage years – to hear from someone you idolise that you are enough, you are beautiful, love yourself and at the same time, to hear their artistic and personal insecurities sung in a medley of rap, hip-hop, and soothing vocals. During this discussion, the youngest fan turned to us and said in a wise voice, “You know, you don’t find BTS, BTS finds you exactly when you need them in your life.” And that is true for most of us.Published in celebration of BTS’s 10th Anniversary, stories that go beyond what you already know about BTS, including unreleased photos, QR codes of videos, and all album information. The K-pop juggernaut known as BTS has dominated the American music scene in an unprecedented way. The group’s seven members — RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook — have performed at the Grammys and the American Music Awards, and most of their music videos have over 1 billion views on YouTube.

The stories of their beginnings exist in the fandom as folklore. For example, Min Yoon-gi aka SUGA had many odd jobs on the side to support himself and his family and on one of these jobs, he got into an accident as a delivery boy and had to undergo multiple surgeries on his shoulder over the years. When you see him perform on stage, especially in the choreography of RUN BTS, it is hard to imagine that he went through such a tough phase. But every BTS member has similar experiences of hurting themselves during concerts, practice, or performances and powering through it all. The group also doesn’t shy away from discussing struggles with mental health.

The ten-year anniversary memoir is at once an encyclopaedia for the uninitiated and an emotional roller coaster ride for longtime fans.

Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS” is the first biography of the group, published in time for their 10-year anniversary. Written over three years, the book weaves in an oral history with group interviews by the biography’s author, Myeongseok Kang. Fans might be surprised at the shaggy underdog tale contained therein. Here are some major takeaways. BTS was born in a K-pop dormitory For a BTS fan, it is tough to choose one single favourite album or era and a similar sentiment follows a reader through the journey of this book. It is tough to choose a favourite chapter or section. But the most relatable era that everyone will connect to is the Pandemic-era album, BE. Throughout the pandemic, as anxiety about the future gripped everyone, BTS didn’t remain unaffected by it either. Feeling disconnected from their fans, they too had moments of self-doubt and wondered if the path to success that had emerged since their debut would all but disappear. Songs such as Life Goes On, Telepathy, and Fly to My Room gave voice to our pandemic anxiety. The stories have been woven together within the context of the larger Korean music industry by the journalist and candid, in-depth interviews with BTS. Of course, all of this is on-brand for BTS – opening up, sharing their struggles, or things that may be embarrassing for others but are important life lessons for BTS. There are details such as the fact that they practise more than 16 hours daily, their initial doubts about making a debut, doing justice to their fame with their music, and other creative and personal concerns.BTS had conflicting emotions when it came to awards shows. They struggled with industry peers in their early days, and felt they weren’t welcomed or respected as artists. But in 2021 they wound up on American soil just as a lull in the pandemic opened a window for a public appearance at the American Music Awards. They also happened to be up up for several major awards, including the most coveted: artist of the year. The trainees sign contracts and must live in a dormitory, where they eat, sleep and breathe K-pop until their debut. Jin describes the dorms as having “clothes strewn everywhere, cereal scattered on the floor” and plenty of dirty dishes, explaining that they worked 14-hours days and were simply too busy to live tidy lives. The book goes into how the band found what Kang calls “alchemy” because it is a special set of circumstances, people, and hard work that made BTS what it is. Big Hit Entertainment’s director and BTS’s producer Bang Si-hyuk bet everything on a group of trainees to debut as BTS, and everyone else was let go from their contracts. The group discusses what it was like to create music under such immense pressure despite Bang’s faith in the group. The book, which BTS co-wrote with journalist Myeongseok Kang, arrives on 9 July in celebration of their 10th anniversary. The July date also marks the day (aka ARMY day) that the fandom name ARMY was confirmed.

It wasn’t all adoration from there on out: The band came under fire for two songs that fans said perpetuated gender inequality and misogyny. The 2014 song “War of Hormones” featured lyrics that translate to “Girls are like an equation / us guys just do them (yup) / Imma give it to you girl right now / A woman is the best present.” And the 2015 song “Joke” includes lyrics that translate to “”You’re the best woman, the best vagina .... But now that I think about it, you were never the best / I will stop calling you best and instead call you gonorrhea.” In this respect, BTS and Big Hit, without even realising it themselves, were in the process of tearing down boundaries.”Another of Junji Ito's classics, the sci-fi masterwork Remina tells the chilling tale of a hell star. Music BTS’ Suga on going solo, his love of hip-hop and the band’s future: ‘We’re real brothers, period’ Not that we were doing it for the money necessarily, but I wonder if we should’ve at least been paid enough to buy a meal, and a lot of times we weren’t paid even that.” I do like to try different things. I figured I'd be able to have a variety of experiences if I were an idol and an actor at the same time. Reality had other plans.” I had such a great time reading this! It was wonderful to hear the members’ perspectives on the different ups and downs they’ve had as a group. There’s also a big emphasis on explaining their thought process behind different songs and their lyrics, which I really appreciated. The book isn’t all celebratory, it definitely does touch on moments of other people in the industry being disrespectful towards them, targeted hate campaigns, and also moments where BTS made mistakes, but that doesn’t overwhelm the story. They also go in depth with explaining how overwhelming their international success became and why they almost decided to disband at the beginning of 2018.
