About this deal

Early on the film really plays on the comedy side of things, especially with Yeung trying to make a difference as a police woman, but coming up against the daft bureaucracy of the department, and an uncle who wants to keep her away from all of the action.

It’s actually the technical side of the release which is disappointing here, with the distorted Cantonese audio bad enough to be a distraction. When it turns out the jewels were fake, they embark on a violent rampage to get the money they feel they earned. As far as encoding goes, I think it's unfair to criticize Eureka since they've used and provided other companies with some of the same scans, audio, and extra material. From then on, Luk struggles to survive as the drug dealers repeatedly try to take him out and the police continue to treat him like a wanted man, not helped by the fact he escapes custody and heads back to Hong Kong. With a rather downbeat tone and a conclusion that doesn’t necessarily feel like a “happy ending,” the movie deserves a rewatch if it’s thus far escaped your attention. One minor complaint: constantly referring to the villains as the "male and female thieves" is very clunky and unnatural, and comes off as some sort of automated translation.

It gets progressively more brutal as the film unfolds, at points getting as gory as an eighties video nasty. In The Line of Duty, hier in Deutschland auch unter mehreren alternativ Titeln bekannt, ist ein kleiner rasanter B-Actionfilm aus HK. They’re refreshingly honest about some of the films’ shortcomings and I also appreciated their interesting dissection of Yen’s career and its ups and downs in their part IV commentary. org, one of the premier destinations on the web to discuss DVD releases from The Criterion Collection, Masters of Cinema, and other DVD production companies from around the world. His father, the Peking Opera-trained Simon (Siu-tien) Yuen, had been acted in films since the late ‘40s and had parts in essential genre masterpieces, like King Hu’s Come Drink with Me (1966) , Lau Kar-leung’s The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) , and Woo-ping’s Drunken Master (playing his signature character, 1978).The themes of the story are similar too, with a Japanese cop seeking vengeance in Hong Kong, and a Hong Kong police force more accustomed to bureaucracy than actual police work, much to the annoyance of the idealistic protagonist. As much a part of the success is Corey Yuen whose work here is lean, mean, and perfectly modulated in style and tone.

Bruce Jensen on Jake Gyllenhaal goes full on Jackie Chan in the Trailer for Doug Liman’s ‘Road House’ also starring Conor McGregor Dare I say, for my taste, this looks better than the original? Cracking action movie with Cynthia Khan and a fresh faced Donnie Yen, reminds me of police story but just a bit more serious, with excellent fight scenes (as I expect with any film starring Mr Yen ) for any fan of Hong Kong cinema this is a must see. The duo continues their relaxed micro-commentary track that includes being on set during the entire production of the finale which took over 30 days to shoot; the hours and hours it takes to do certain setup/camera shots; her use of weapons during the scene – including a crazy anecdote about her staying on the wall during a specific shot; and much more. Eureka has gotten worse since they rose to prominence with their releases from 2018-2020, whereas 88 Films have made tremendous improvement in that department.Overall wasn't bothered by your subs, and it's been too long to remember other issues or even the exact circumstances of the dialogue in question. Rothrock’s character (as usual) is susceptible to sexist and racist remarks from her Asian counterparts, and she proves them all wrong with her amazing prowess as a fighter.

Often overshadowed by other films in the series, In the Line of Duty III is the hidden gem of the franchise, featuring shockingly brutal and ferocious action sequences. There is an edge to the film that many will be shocked by that do not remember the days of yore and the work of directors Tsui Hark, John Woo, and Ringo Lam. They've also moved on from being just "thieves" after they've massacred dozens of people during the heist. His partner, Hiroshi Fujioka (played by Hiroshi Fujioka, though he’s not actually playing himself), is there when it happens and vows to get revenge. Again, as with the other films, the restoration work has been rather thorough, with no apparent signs of damage remaining, and the encode looks good.
