About this deal

A thrilling and thought-provoking sequel to the winner of the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Older Readers, WRANGLESTONE.

The color of the wood often deepens and becomes richer over time, making it a popular choice for high-end furniture and musical instruments. Some varieties of walnut wood, such as Claro walnut, can also have a range of stunning figure patterns, including burls, crotches, and curly grain. These woods originate from trees belonging to the Dalbergia genus and are found in tropical regions across South America, Africa, and Asia. Otherwise, you will have to use Aussie Clear or Aussie Clear light to prevent UV weathering. But these are pigmented with a “transparent” pigment rather than the “opaque” pigments used in stains. These “transparent” pigments are the only effective UV protection which will drastically slow down the UV weathering process. Aussie Clear Light as the name suggests, is suitable for light coloured timbers. It will approximate wet straw. We can supply you with a sample can that you can brush out onto an offcut to see if you’re happy with it. The world that Charlton has created in these two books is so immersive and creative that it feels completely unique and exciting. From the safe haven of Wranglestone itself in the first book, he creates a vivid dystopian wilderness that is captivating and haunting. Timberdark sees that world expanding across new horizons that take Peter and Cooper to the closest thing they've known to civilization. Their bond is tested in authentic ways that continue to illustrate the themes established in the first installment while adding new characters, locations and even a phantasmic villain to boot. All of this feels so intrinsically Wrangletone and it really speaks to Charlton's firm grip on his particular style.Wood is an incredible thing. As well as being practical and highly functional, it comes in a mind-boggling, wide-ranging palette of beautiful colours, textures, grains and hues. We can customise our cladding based on the client’s specifications. Our customisation includes species, profile and grade. Customers can also stipulate their preferred lengths with our custom cut service. Timber Cladding Certifications

Darren Charlton has done it again!! Timberdark is beautifully written and such wonderful descriptions and I can honestly see myself in the book alongside the characters. However- the characters of Cooper and Peter are very dear to me, their connection and relationship never failed to make me smile when reading Wranglestone. So- when the troubles began to occur with their relationship in Timberdark I definitely found myself in a lot of emotional turmoil! Depending on the style and areas, it can also be tremendously cost-effective as a solution to cladding a building. It has quite a lot going for it!" says Matt. Why is dark wood popular, what types are there and how can I use it? Why choose dark wood for your next project? Wood rot will also change the colour of timber, especially brown rot. As the name suggests, brown rot is brown in colourThere's so much more to this book than relationship trauma though. There's a really exciting storyline once they reach the town that left me wondering what just about everybody is up to, with plots and mysteries and secrets that are thrilling and captivating. It really left me guessing about what was really going on, and once truths are revealed it's frantic with action. It follows the ancient Japanese wood preservation technique of Yakisugi; the surface is charred without the entire piece of wood being combusted. As well as providing it with a distinct look, the carbonisation actually makes the wood waterproof, insect resistant and fire retardant!

If it’s treated (radiata) pine, then the treatments will assist in keeping the timber from grey weathering. As I stated in this post, grey weathering is a type mould that grows after the UV from the sun breaks down the lignin in the timber into simple sugars. The mould feeds off those simple sugars. But the primary treatments are also toxic for the mould, as well as fungal decay. In this case then you can use either Radial Timber Sealer or Exterior Pine Clear. Neither products have a pigment, but as a result, neither have any UV protection either. So this solution is only valid if your weatherboards are treated softwoods as per AS 1604.The problem for me is that, in Timberdark, much of what the author does best is shunted off, leaving long periods of nothing very much at all. A little of this is enough to get the point across, I think, and I understand why there needed to be demonstrations of how soul-sapping life in town is for both Cooper and Peter, in different ways. But alongside this, I felt there needed to be 'something' going on, something to tie the story together - a rise and fall of tension, interesting plot events. While the opening is stunning, the ending felt rushed and heavy-handed, because the whole middle section of the book seemed to be wasted in directionless sketches of ideas that didn't come together. Durable, naturally resistant to decay and insect damage, deepens in color and luster over time, versatile, and can be easily stained or finished.

First of all, for anyone not familiar with book one in this series, Wranglestone, yes it is a gay zombie Western. In a post-apocalyptic world, human survivors eke out an existence on the islands of a lake on a nature reserve, protected from the zombies stalking the land by the water, except when it ices over in winter. In this bleak, harsh existence, Peter and Cooper find love with each other. Cooper, with his Stetson and his faded jeans and his beloved horse is the quintessential cowboy, and I loved how making him gay did so much to subvert traditional tropes and open up new possibilities for storytelling. The book follows Peter and Cooper and how they are adjusting to life and their new relationship after the events of Wranglestone. Peter and Cooper have a plan to find Returnees and offer them sanctuary at Wranglestone. This all goes to plan until they meet a Ghost Ranger and their plans are thrown in the air and they are forced to try a new life in a town. There’s something that’s just not quite right about the town though and Peter and Cooper grow apart over a single word… ‘Timberdark’.Did you know that dark hardwood flooring is actually usually warmer underfoot? As well as this, dark-tone timbers don’t naturally show dirt as easily and are resistant to wear and tear — making them very child and pet friendly indeed.
