About this deal

If you’re a caregiver to a kid, you probably already know whether or not your child has a love for art (hint: if you have to throw away pictures on a daily basis because they bring home so many, then it’s safe to assume your kiddo is a fan of art). It’s a fantastic thing for them to be interested in because it allows them a way to express their creativity now and it’s also something that studies have shown can help them reduce and manage stress as they grow up. So, if investing in a few children’s books about art now will help keep them excited, then it’s definitely worth it. For me, the hardest part was selecting what to include. It was a nice excuse to sort through the portfolios of special artwork. I loved going through each child’s artwork with them to exclamations of “I remember when we studied frogs in preschool and I made that watercolor pond painting!” and “Oh yeah! My Sun Monster!!!!”

The National Gallery Shop has a broad and exciting selection of art books for kids, with this diverse range including titles that can inspire a child’s imagination. Who doesn’t love the Miffy story book series? And this charming book is brilliant for introducing budding artists to colour, patterns and shape. The amount of artwork that my children produce is astounding! It never ceases to amaze me that they can create and create and create and create some more. As an artful parent, I really love to give them access to make art as often as they like. This is one of a new series of story books for children on great women through history. Really well written and beautifully illustrated, it tells the story of Frida Kahlo in a way that younger children can understand. The book finishes with a short biography and extra facts about the artist, including where to discover more about her. Other figures in the series include Rosa Parks, Marie Curie and Coco Chanel. Although best for ages 6 – 8, younger ones will love the quirky illustrations.
