About this deal

Complete with another stunning Archer cliffhanger, the novel ends just as the reader is hopeless hooked. The only thing that surpasses their bad deeds in prosaicness is the banality of the good guys' response despite all their wealth, connections and state power.

Hardcastle is the Chairman of the Farthing Bank and he will join forces with the Barrington’s to try and thwart Don Pedro Martinez and his sons. In a turn of events, Cedric Hardcastle takes a position on Barringtons’ board, and the outcome of the chairman vote becomes more uncertain. This thoroughly engaging old-school, multigenerational saga harks back to the work of Malcolm Macdonald, Belva Plain, and Irwin Shaw. The series is supposed to be about the life of one man, Harry Clifton, but Harry takes a backseat in this story. However, I read other authors for their words, and the way they put words together to make extraordinary and beautiful sentences.

It continues to follow the Clifton and Barrington families as they try to outmaneuver Don Pedro Martinez, an Argentinean smuggler who featured heavily in the prior novel, Best Kept Secret. Remorseful that he failed to act in time to avert her suicide, and now aware that Martinez has been trying to sabotage the company, Hardcastle teams up with the Barrington family to help defeat him. Further Archer integrates the Irish Republican Army into the storyline as they with Martinez in toe to do as much harm to Britain as possible. I kept saying to myself "just to the end of the chapter" but had to carry on to find out how they got out of the predicament everybody was always left in. He reluctantly turned over and blinked at the little phosphorescent green hands on the bedside clock: 6:43 a.

Archer knows how to dole out tiny crumbs of suspense right up to the last page, which ends with…a really excellent cliffhanger. Marsden switched on the ignition, shifted the gear lever into first and set out on the long journey from the Manor House to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. Hardcastle's first decision is who to support to become the next chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Major Alex Fisher? The books in this series all follow a sort of pattern, and I just knew that this of course would end with another cliffhanger where you don't know who in the Clifton / Barrington families will or will not survive.

The soap opera that is the lives of the Clifton and Barrington families continues in this fourth entry in the Clifton Chronicles.Jeffrey Archer is one of the world’s bestselling authors, with sales of over 275 million copies in 97 countries, and is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (twenty times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries). In the next novel in the series BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, Archer’s plot revolves around the Barrington family and the machinations of Don Pedro Martinez, an international criminal who blames Harry Clifton for the death of his son, and Alex Fisher who attended boarding school with Giles Barrington and continues to seek revenge against Giles and his family dating back to their days in boarding school and the loss of a recent parliamentary election. A New York Times Bestselling AuthorBe Careful What You Wish For opens with Harry and Emma Clifton rushing to the hospital to learn the fate of their son, who has been involved in a fatal car accident. The approach I am speaking off is his storytelling ability that produces a wonderful family saga in the CLIFTON CHRONICLES with each volume ending in a cliff hanger that gently encourages the reader to pick up the next installment. I loved the first couple of books in this series and the last one I found somewhat enjoyable as well.

In the present instance BEST KEPT SECRET ended with an automobile accident that resulted in the death of one of the passengers, but we are left wondering if Harry and Emma’s son, Sebastian has survived. Even the cliff hanger at the end is not very intriguing, because there are only two possible resolutions, and the sequence of events following either of them is nothing to look forward to if the writing continues to be so insipid.I have to admit some of my favorites are the evil ones, especially Lady Virginia and Major Alex Fisher, who try their best to seek revenge on the Cliftons and the Barringtons. Marsden pulled into the forecourt of the local garage, where he usually filled up on a Friday afternoon. Don Pedro Martinez tries to get his own candidate to lead the company, [3] and Yorkshire banker Cedric Hardcastle joins the board. Both sides of the family are elated, until Clive’s mother meets Lady Virginia Fenwick, who tells her that Jessica is adopted. After leaving Oxford he was elected to the Greater London Council, and three years later at the age of 29, he became Member of Parliament for Louth.
