The gold is a simple basecoat of Retributor Armour shaded with Reikland Fleshshade for a nice, vibrant gold. I then drybrush the edges with Liberator Gold before being finished with a very light highlight of Stormhost Silver on the extreme edges. My absolute favourite stratagem from this book, and going straight into the big leagues of high-quality strat names with Long, Uncontrolled Bursts, we have Revenge of the Doomstalker. You can activate this after an enemy unit destroys one of your characters, and at the end of the phase a Canoptek Doomstalker from your army can shoot at the unit responsible, and gets +1 to hit against that target for the rest of the game. Revenge is a dish best served with incredibly powerful doomsday blasts, and even if they weren’t already a decent unit, this would be an strong additional incentive to take one. Character Upgrades

My characters tend to follow the same process, with some minor variations and more complicated schemes. The Gathering Storm I and Shield of Baal campaign books from late 7th edition both feature Necrons in key roles working with the Imperium to protect key worlds from threats that they’d rather not deal with themselves. In Gather Storm, Trazyn works with Cawl and Imperial forces to stop Abaddon and in Shield of Baal Anrakyr works with the Blood Angels and the Mephrit dynasty to fend off a Tyranid invasion.

What You Get

Thin the Umber ink about 1:1 with water (If you use Wyldwood contrast, water will work fine for thinning, contrast medium is not necessary for this technique) and splotch it around somewhat randomly to give the armor a stained/dirty look. Living Metal: Wounded models with this ability regain 1W in your command phase. All multi-wound units get this, again including Canoptek units like Wraiths and also, importantly, C’tan. Implement this Stratagem when you wish to dismiss warp-spawned powers with the same contempt that the Silent King himself would. Choose this dynasty if… You’re looking to field the ancestral dynasty of the Silent King. Their resistance to mortal wounds makes them especially effective against psyker-heavy armies, while their handy re-rolls when shooting or fighting ensure your deadliest weapons will strike true. Scaling the uses of this sort of thing by mission size, and standardising across all armies, feels like an elegant solution and we’re glad to see this. For Necrons specifically, extra warlord traits help because of the mandate to make a NOBLE your warlord. I’d expect to see Enduring WIll added to Skorpekh Lords a lot, and Thrall of the Silent King tried out on a wide variety of buff characters like Crypteks. Relic wise, the Veil of Darkness has been slightly nerfed but remains a near must-have, and there are some good generic weapon options. All together, very useful.

They say that quantity has a quality of its own and that’s especially true when you come armed with six(!) guns. Hexmark Destroyers were once Deathmarks, but now go into battle carrying multiple enmitic disintegrator pistols.One of the most exciting features of Warhammer 40,000’s newest and best-ever edition is the narrative-driven Crusade campaign system. The awesome thing is that every new codex is going to have a section dedicated to providing that faction with loads of new and wonderfully thematic options just for Crusade. We defy anyone to read this section of their codex and not immediately want to start a Crusade campaign – seriously! That then gets washed with Nuln Oil to darken it down, especially in the recesses, followed by a drybrush with Necron Compound on bits that are going to stay silver to complete it. I do this all now because when drybrushing such a large proportion of the model there’s a risk of getting some on other areas, which I’d rather be able to correct by re-applying the base than having to redo any edge highlighting. Dynastic Agent: Units that can be added to any Necron detachment without breaking detachment abilities or protocols. Edge highlight the armor with Silver mixed with just enough Pure Copper to give it a hint of color. Step 1: I start by doing a base coat of Leadbelcher all over the main parts of the body that won’t be red. My reds have pretty good coverage, so I can afford to be a bit sloppy here. I also want to get the spots on the head where the mask is broken.
