About this deal

Prepare to be enthralled by the haunting practical effects and the raw power of Doug Bradley’s portrayal of Pinhead, the chilling leader of the Cenobites. Arrow Films have knocked it out of the park again and although the movie isn’t the best in the series you will definitely take pleasure in this excellent package. The reason being the weight of expectation for reviewing one of the all time classic horror movies would have been almost too much for me to bear.

Neil became a horror fan from just a nightmare-inducing glimpse of the Ghoulies VHS cover and a book on how to draw ghosts. Digging into some of them, the two documentaries on the Hellbound disc are possibly the best two here, the first being a loose but fun deep dive into the film by a couple of friends which sounds like the kind of conversation you wish you had down your local, whilst the second fully appreciates the work that composer Young brings to the whole series. Grain is present and resolved beautifully throughout (where the source allows of course), this being only the start of the significant improvements for the detail and colour grade of the films. There’s some very cheap CG on show that scrubs up nicely but yet again, shows the inherent low resolution of its source – the close in shots of the space station as the shuttle docks and departs at the end look far better than ever expected.

Yet by the time the newly formed Dimension Films had green-lit the third entry, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, with bigger funding comes bigger ‘market considerations’ and likely bigger creative constraint sensibilities…gone is the bizarre trans-Atlantic hinterworld of the previous entries, gone is the warped and twisted psycho-sexual notions of pleasure merging with pain and back again, and sadly gone too is both the visual and narrative stylings that made the previous films so memorable. Aber bitte bezahlt nicht die Preise, die teilweise so übertrieben sind, das sich der Verkäufer schämen sollte. I was also struck by films from the same period such as Deliverance, that expose the male psyche in its most primal reactive form,” Clay continues. The plot has far too many holes and dead ends and raises more questions that it answers, thanks in no small part to the removal of 30 mins of footage from the first cut of the film that caused director Kevin Yagher to walk away from the final film – the relationship between Angelique and Pinhead is now woefully ill-defined and makes little sense, their interesting old school/new school versions of hellish ideologies and their conflict that results now little more than a few scattered lines of dialogue; the lack of focus now on the second box also undermines much of the hunt through time of the Merchant family; and the final act back in the 22 nd century simply didn’t have the budget to realise it as anything other than a very cheap looking stalk n’ slash denouement, with little of a finale to Merchant, Angelique and Pinhead’s centuries spanning storyline. Following the destructive finale of the previous film, Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) awakes at The Channard Institute, a mental health facility that doesn’t always have its patients’ best interests at heart. Then, Hellraiser: Bloodline sinks its hooks into past, present and future with the story of Phillip LeMarchand, the 18th-century toymaker who made the lament configuration puzzle box, his descendent John Merchant – a 20th-century architect whose most recent building bears a striking resemblance to the lament configuration – and Dr. The plot throughout the 8 films with Doug Bradley starring as "Pinhead" is pretty standardised and formulaic but enjoyable none the less. It could be interpreted as a feminist fantasy, and thanks to Clive Barker’s writing and direction the backbone of the story is a woman.

The iconic horror film, Hellraiser, has made a chilling comeback to the silver screen with its stunning 4K restoration. Over more than a decade, he has interviewed a wide-ranging group of public figures, from comedian Steve Coogan to icons from the Star Trek universe, cast members from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reality stars from numerous Real Housewives cities and the Below Deck franchise. And so the sequel, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, was rushed into production during the finalisation of the first film and released barely twelve months after. Now his former lover Julia ( Clare Higgins) must kill to make him whole again; but the Cenobites want Frank back, and there’ll be hell to pay when they find him. If you missed the 4K Restoration on the big screen then never fear a special box set from Arrow Films and it is a must-have for any Horror Blu-ray collector.

Experience the sublime agony of the original Hellraiser tetralogy with these 4K restorations from the original camera negatives. And whilst not listened to in their entirety, the new commentaries with Newman and Jones appear to be a really fun listen that lets them both bring a wealth of horror history and experience to the fore, again giving a great new perspective on the films and their supplements. He expertly walks the line being a terrifying monster whilst delivering cutting one liners with confidence and not damaging the brand or heritage in the process. Normally the films we review here at 60MW are check discs, plain discs with none of the ‘extras’ such as the book included with this set.a beautifully perverse series of images and characters that have never left the audience's consciousness.

rendered cleanly and with good prioritization and there are no problems to report in terms of dropouts, distortion or even hiss. There were always a lot of filtered shots used across the three films – more so in the second film – that meant this sharpness is not uniform, but neither should it, this softness inherent to the source material and at least here there’s been no attempts to try and balance this across the picture. The feature debut of director Barnaby Clay, Magnet Releasing’s The Seedingcenters on a hiker who gets lost in the desert and seeks refuge with a woman who is living alone. Last night I ventured into the realm of horror once again as Hellraiser’s 4K restoration was screened at Cineworld. It became a hugely popular horror franchise, securing Pinhead and the Cenobites a place in the Horror Hall of Fame. You get a different version for part 4 and get an unrated version of the third film as well as the theatrical version. Those script problems plague the first act of the film, lazy exposition dumps and flashbacks are seemingly used solely to enable the film to resurrect Julia.
