Yoto says: Immerse yourself in the complete collection of Beatrix Potter tales in this bundle read by Olivia Colman and others. Would you consider the audio edition of Beatrix Potter: The Complete Tales to be better than the print version?

However the text would be good to introduce new vocabulary to children and develop skills for looking up complex language using dictionaries and thesauruses. In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.

We think you might like…

A lovely book to treasure and read to succeeding generations of children. They will love Potter’s engaging tales as dearly as their grandparents and parents did — and still do! Tom was very naughty…. And I think that some day I shall have to make another, larger, book, to tell you more about Tom Kitten!” Also available in PDF. Whether you're looking to relive those treasured moments of your childhood, or hoping to share some of your old favourites with your own little ones, there's no storybook world more pleasant than that of Beatrix Potter. It always angers me to see Beatrix Potter books without the original illustrations, so I’m very happy to report that these are the original watercolor illustrations and line drawings for Potter’s complete works. What a bargain for 99 cents! Beatrix Potter is a treasure! Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.

One of the things I liked about this collection of Beatrix Potter stories, rhymes, and paintings is that before each there is text explaining a bit about the story such as when it was written, what was going on in her life at the time it was written, etc. As with most children’s books that have withstood the test of time, the books appeal to not only children, but adults. As Books Children Love explains: Revisit the world of Beatrix Potter in this timeless new audiobook edition. Featuring all 23 of the classic tales, this new collection features a range of award-winning and contemporary voices, including Olivia Colman, Tom Hardy, Lily James, James Acaster, David Harewood and Joanna Lumley. I am almost inclined to set it up as a canon that a children's story which is enjoyed only by children is a bad children's story. The good ones last." - C.S. LewisA personal favorite. The author was asked by a child who “had told Beatrix that Peter was too good a rabbit, and she wanted a story about a really naughty one!” Well, as the story goes: “This is a man with a gun…. The good Rabbit peeps out of its hole. And it sees the bad Rabbit tearing past — without any tail or whiskers!” Also available in PDF. Beatrix Potter’s tales began when Peter Rabbit first made his appearance in The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902, followed by 22 other tales that you will find in Beatrix Potter: The Complete Tales. Have a suggestion on how we can better serve you? Just want to send us a comment? We’d love to hear from you! Beatrix Potter is one of the world's best-loved children's authors of all time. From her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902) she went on to create a series of stories based around animal characters including Mrs Tiggy-winkle, Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten. Her humorous, lively tales and beautiful illustrations have become a natural part of childhood.Even though I didn't love all the stories and rhymes, seeing all the lovely paintings and drawings by Potter was a delight. Though some of the stories kept me so pulled in I didn't want to look at the drawing in detail until later because I just wanted to find out the ending of that story. Et que dire ? Je suis tombée amoureuse. De son talent. Que ça soit pour l'écriture, mais également ses dessins. Je regrette vraiment de ne pas avoir connu plus jeune. Et en même temps, je me dis que peut-être, je n'aurai pas autant apprécié l'oeuvre. While a lot of these stories I remember hearing as a child there were also a decent number I hand not read before. Some stories were a bit nonsensical or absurd, though, maybe that is part of the point of those? It was also interesting to see what was considered appropriate for children in the early 1900s compared to today. Peter and his family were at home under the root and were warm and cozy. His Ma had an errand to run and left the kids to be good. She also told them to not go near Mr McGregor farm. Their father never returned when he went their. His sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy and And what can I say? I fell in love. Of her talent. Whether for writing, but also for her drawings. I really regret not having known younger. And at the same time, I tell myself that maybe I wouldn't have appreciated the work that much.

It's also your typical morality tale of the "serves you right because you were naughty" variety. And, if you read the rest of the tales, when Peter Rabbit comes up again, he is much changed from his experience, and is basically a kind, upstanding member of the community, his veggie stealing days behind him. Aw.

I was not too familiar with Beatrix Potter when I started reading this book to my granddaughter Cora. I knew of Peter Rabbit and Jeremy Fisher but that's about it. Through this book I met a score of other delightful animal characters and was re-introduced to a few stories I've known for many years but did not kn0w came from Potter's pen. Nearly every book list geared toward homeschoolers will include Beatrix Potter: The Complete Tales, or at least a story or two from the collection. Why only three stars? Number 1: a couple of stories are too long, in my opinion, to hold the attention of young children. Two: the vocabulary is suited for children and adults from Great Britain but not for folks from the States. A perfect gift to introduce children to the world of Beatrix Potter, The Complete Tales is a timeless and classic essential for any nursery shelf.
