A whisky only Jura could make, born of Island and still produced today in a bottle originally shaped to withstand the roughest of journeys from home.

Our distillery was established in 1810 and reborn in 1963 to bring life back to the island and the community. When a bottle of Scotch whisky bears an age statement on the label, that is the age of the youngest whisky in the blend. Once the quality has been approved, the malt and grain new make spirit is ready to be filled into a variety of specially selected oak casks for the long period of maturation in cool, dark warehouses.Until 1831 and the advent of the patent still, all the whisky produced in Scotland was of the malt variety.

Welcome to Jura: A few miles off the west coast of Scotland you'll find our island: remote, sometimes wild, yet always beautiful, home to 212(ish) islanders, one road, one pub and one distillery. Using pure water from the Island's tallest mountains, the Paps of Jura, which has filtered down to Market Loch below along with some of the tallest stills of any island distillery produces a whisky that tastes rich and rounded, sweet with a hint of subtle smokiness. If you’re creating an infinity bottle with your whiskies I would say this is a good option to bulk it out a bit given the relatively neutral and smooth flavour. With approximately 200 Diurachs – the Gaelic name for the inhabitants – living on the island, most everyone there knows someone who works at Jura.I've used Eton Vintners for many years and have always found the staff unfailingly helpful and wise. The sherry finish ebbs and flows, sometimes adding a richness to the fruit that adds some berry and cherry notes to the already clean apple or pear, each taking their turn in a delightful dance.

Crafted in uncommonly tall stills, matured in the fresh sea air and American white oak bourbon barrels and finished in the finest aged Oloroso sherry butts. I am disappointed as Jura was a good distillery once, but this has non of the complexity or warmth that I remember from 15 years ago. The distillery draws its water from Loch a'Bhaile-Mhargaidh' (the market loch), a thousand feet (300m) above Craighouse, the island's only village.Jura is located just 60 miles from the west coast of mainland Scotland, yet with its wild beauty, it feels like a world away. This is now my 3rd bottle of Jura 10 in as little as 5 weeks, that in it's self should tell you it's good, but if not allow me to explain why I like it so much. This process creates a Whisky which has notes of Malty Spice which is infused with Sweet notes of Vanilla. Light golden, yellow in colour, the nose is light clean and fresh, with a hint sea salt, almonds, and spice notes. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
