Our Brooks Female Saddle B17 S has a stylish and modern look with its special copper-plated rails and hammered copper rivets. Note: We recommend using the Brooks Leather Saddle Care Kit (product code: 2322230) or the Brooks Proofide Single saddle grease (product code 531267) for regular care. It looks really great on the bike and will no doubt last longer than the gel filled Italian elastomer thing that fell apart. The first use of Proofide could be done after 3-4 years of saddle uses and then afterwards revert back to every 6 months as with our other leather models Moreover, applying Proofide to Aged leather can actually be detrimental to the saddle; it carries the risk (in extreme cases, maybe) of making the leather too soft and so no longer firm enough to support the weight of its rider. In line with Brooks' current policy of looking through the back catalogue for items that might please the contemporary audience, the concept and design of the Imperial date from around 1890, making it possibly the first-ever cycle saddle manufactured with a large hole in the middle to relieve 'perineal pressure'. The B17 saddle, intended for the touring and trekking cyclist, has been Brooks' best selling model for over a century. In 1959 a special version, the B17 Competition Campagnolo was introduced with longer rails set closer together offering more back and forth adjustment in conjunction with a special seatpin from Campagnolo.

This model later evolved into the Special before disappearing from the catalogues just before the announcement of the B17 Competition at the November 1954 London Cycle Show.
