This is Terry Jones attempt at telling Viking sagas in the way that he hoped they would be, full of adventure and excitement. Simple, spare illustrations offer just enough glimpses of Roz and her surroundings to spark the imagination. Aud, who witnessed Snorri's murder and was able to recover the mouthpiece, sounds the first note on the Horn. The Saga of Erik the Viking was written by Terry in 1983 for his son Bill and he later directed a film adaptation starring Tim Robbins. My favourite character from the book was Eric because he was the most bravest and he didn't fall for tricks.

Some footage of Erik's village and environments was shot in Norway, while the Hy-Brasil sequence was filmed in Malta. Aud has warned the Vikings that should blood ever be shed upon Hy-Brasil, the entire island would sink beneath the waves. They are dismayed to find that Halfdan and his soldiers have arrived before them and are holding the villagers captive.

This book was published by Puffin in 1988 and is holding up well for a vintage paperback with just slight tanning to the pages and outer text block. Being Scandinavian (and having an intense passion for vikings when I was little), my mother bought this book for me when I was learning how to read.Join our community to get personalised book suggestions, extracts straight to your inbox, 10% off RRPs, and to change children’s lives. The production by the Monty Python company Prominent Features received financial backing from Swedish Svensk Filmindustri, which contributed to the film having its premiere in Sweden on 1 September 1989, followed by the US on 22 September, and the UK on 29 September. Though Roz is different from the creatures she lives with or encounters—including her son, Brightbill the goose, and his new mate, Glimmerwing—she makes connections through her versatile communication abilities and her desire to understand and help others.
