About this deal

Based on a tip by his cellmate, Wolf Forrester (Randall "Tex" Cobb), Caine heads for Diggstown, Georgia, a small town run by the ruthless John Gillon (Bruce Dern). The focus is on characters and trying to best each other and the boxing matches themselves are decent and good at building momentum and suspense. His reasons for taking down the bad guy are sincere and played out well making him slightly more complex than just a con man trying to win big money.

That brings up Diggstown's best man, Hammerhead Hagan, the only fighter ever to actually beat Palmer during their professional careers. Gillon has lost everything, leading Caine to correct him with an admonishment: "Actually, I believe it goes: Never con a con-man, especially one who's better than you are. Caine and his partner, Daniel Patrick O'Shannon "Fitz" Fitzpatrick ( Oliver Platt), travel to a small town not far from the prison: Diggstown, a city obsessed with boxing. Gabe, recognising a golden opportunity, bets the town`s powerful boss (Bruce Dern) that his fighter will defeat ten opponents in 24 hours. Hier ist wirklich eine sehr gelungene Box-Alternative zu Rocky oder Raging Bull vom Cast bis zum Drehbuch hat man hier wirklich gute Arbeit geleistet.Sam Lester (played by Roger Hewlett), who is secretly given a laxative before the fight and eventually runs from the ring. Raging Bull is of course a masterpiece so there is no touching that, but if you are in the mood for a good comedy and just a flat out good movie I recommend it.

But just when all looks lost, Caine whistles at Torres, gets his attention, straightens his tie and does a thumbs-down gesture (copying a move Gillon did earlier). However, the good news is that now everyone can enjoy what is essentially a boys film, but truly one of the great underrated films of all time.
