About this deal

It was a presence of comfort and caring; one who never meant to frighten or disturb youngsters in their own beds. She is far too biased and cannot, for the life of her, step outside herself for a moment to present the proper picture.

The author mentioned in an interview that she was looking for a publisher who wasn't going to edit it. Overwritten, flowery (but wilted) prose that frightens the reader with its monotonous voice that threatens to never end. A use of Strunk and White and an editor to help with structure, time lines and efficient use of language could make this a five star read. Often when there was a scary incident and they screamed and banged things for attention, no one else in the house could hear it.Having heard another the movie, I decided to read the story behind the hauntings first, and boy am I glad I did. This book was FULL of repetitiveness, the same tales told from different view points, the same phrases used again and again, like Andrea forget she had already written about a ghostly encounter so she just threw it in somewhere else to make sure.

Given the vast majority of the "incidents" described, most are fairly normal for an old house: doors opening and closing themselves, objects appearing and disappearing, moving around, things levitating, clocks stopping, phone ringing when unplugged, pets not wanting to go in, or seeming to react to something unseen by their owners, smells and cold that come and go, hearing footsteps, sensing and seeing presences.Perhaps she is the one who tucked the girls in at night, the one who’d loved them well and tenderly kissed their foreheads and smelled of flowers and fruit. For more than twenty years I was a cast member with The Theatre Company of Rhode Island, performing on the stage of The Assembly Theater, the historic centerpiece of Harrisville. They flew down the chimney, they didn't bite anyone, they were not rabid and the author tells with glee of they uses tennis rackets to kill them.

Time suddenly became irrelevant, fractured by spirits making their presence known then dispersing into the ether. Now is the time to tell the whole truth about what happened in a house alive with death as we lived an illuminating decade of life. If people having interacted with spirits for as long as we have written history doesn't count as evidence, I think the scoffers are not being honest with themselves. This book was not good, I am only giving it two angels because the author did manage to catch how her sisters and parents felt living in their house and how horrifying some of their experiences were, Andrea manages to tell the story from the POV of all of her family members and catch their personalities enough that I could feel empathy for them and relate to them.

In 1970, Roger and Carolyn Perron purchased what seemed to be the home of their dreams: the Arnold Estate, located just beyond the village of Harrisville, Rhode Island. Did she believe the decision was her own privileged one to make, or did this woman suspect she risked punishment from the God who reserves such judgments as His own, unforgiving of those who take this matter into mortal hands? Graduating in 1980 with an interdisciplinary degree in Philosophy and English, it was during my senior year when my mother announced the sale of the farm was pending.

In the framework of an inexplicable existence for a family dwelling in a house alive with death, it was a welcome presence, a protective influence in an otherwise scary place. I'm actually offended by the lax grammar and sentence structure, not to mention the ADD involved in the composition. It chops and changes a bit and then mentions people who have never been introduced before so you are not sure who they are, but it is still an interesting read. The author seems to have relaxed and found a style, there are less overused stylistic phrases (message:received, house alive with death, the woman, the man etc), the wordiness has been toned down, and there is less hopping about in terms of timeline. Other examples of real danger where when the girls were mysteriously trapped- behind the chimney, two girls were at risk of suffocation, one in an old box that wouldn't open although it wasn't fastened, and the other in a trunk she doesn't remember getting into, and was nearly impossible to open in the first place. Summary: The Perron family purchased the Arnold Estate, located just beyond the village of Harrisville, Rhode Island, in 1970. The female figure who showed herself with a broken neck was identified by the Warrens as Bathsheba, and often attacked Carolyn, the girls' mother.
