About this deal

It was one of several British films released in 1964 after spending well over a year on the shelf - others included "The Leather Boys", "Ladies Who Do" and "The Comedy Man".

David enters the building for his interview where Major McPherson questions him about his association with Dr. The Radio Times Guide to Films gave the film 2/5 stars, writing: "After a decade top-lining some of the wittiest social satires ever made in the UK, lan Carmichael's fortunes were on the wane by the time he starred in this leaden comedy thriller. Garrett is confused by the apparently secretive way that one player, Richter, transfers the knight chess piece to Melnicker. Maggie tells Garrett to meet her at the train station, where she convinces him to board the train with her. Unknown to them, Garrett has rigged the alarm on his wristwatch to cause the boat to explode, killing the three henchmen.Directed by the BAFTA-nominated Cy Endfield, whose credits include Zulu and Hell Drivers, Hide And Seek also stars Oscar winner Hugh Griffith, Bond villain Curt Jurgens and Golden Globe-winning British actress Janet Munro; the film is presented here in a brand-new transfer from the original elements, in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio.

At the meeting, the Major tells Garrett that he must stop socialising with Melnicker since he is a known communist. King's Parade appear in 'Nothing But the Best' and a similar view can be seen in 'Out of the Shadow' and 'Franklyn'. Kieron Moore, who had a real talent for darkly smooth and menacing characters, appears but is underused. They are chased around in the train until Maggie pulls the emergency stop cord and she and Garrett jump off the train. Sadly, the decidedly naff title did summarise and embody the film only too well, both as regards final product and as a description of the plot.As David is driven away, he looks back to see two agents (Monty Warren and Cyril Cross) speaking with Melnicker.

At least the denouement explains everything even if i wasn't exactly sure what was going on beforehand.DISCLAIMER: Note that inclusion of a title within our catalogue does not guarantee rights or print availability for a specific territory. Ian Carmichael, Janet Munro and Curd Jürgens star in Cy Endfield’s thriller about a Cambridge professor who becomes involved in an dangerous game of cat and mouse while trying to track down an old friend. Ian Carmichael has the performance of his career playing the nigh wrong man-esque physics professor out on a flimsy spy plot. The ill-fated Janet Munro is quite charming as the female bait used to trap Ian Carmichael's scientist. Alongside him is the lively Janet Munro, and the two make enjoyable company as the plot carries off rather well.

I haven’t seen my acquaintance for quite a few years, but Hide and Seek is the eighth Cy Endfield film I have watched over the last two or three years. Garrett starts to walk down the road and comes across a policeman on a bicycle who goes back to the cliff with him. When he goes outside and says this to a cabby, the cabby suggests "King’s Square" in Chelsea, which they drive to.Garrett and Richter fight, and Richter loses and goes over the side of the cliff to his apparent death. It doesn't always make sense and the tone varies but the story and cast are pleasing enough to carry the film along.
