Heaven or Las Vegas was released in 1990 and went on to become their most commercially successful release, reaching number seven in the UK album charts. Then, suddenly, 'Fifty-Fifty Clowns', that insistent beat, smooth keyboard chords stepping through up to a climax, wilting vocals behind a wailing guitar, but so smooth and mellifluous. Heaven or Las Vegas followed in 1990, and the release was also via 4AD in the UK and Capitol in the US. An album that screams a proper Abbey Road studio remastering if at all possible with digital 90s music. Deciding to scale back the overly pretty sound on Blue Bell Knoll while experimenting with more accessibility the Twins ended up creating their best album since Treasure. Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description.

At least there aren't many pops or distracting surface noise issues, but I'd have rather had those than have a brilliant album be reduced to a shell of what it could have been. Literally sounds like someone ran the entire album through a maxed-out limiter and boosted the bass to appease newer fans who prefer heavy bass over clear mixes. Bought this for three particular tracks - namely 'Road, River and Rail', the title track and 'Fifty fifty Clown'. Road, River, and Rail” was included on the two-disc compilation that accompanied the 2013 book, Facing the Other Way: The Story of 4AD, by Martin Aston.

It was the band’s last album for 4AD, and was their most commercially successful possibly due to Elizabeth Fraser’s much more intelligible lyrics.An alternate version of “Pitch the baby” was recorded and released on the Mute Records/4AD compilation “Red Tape.
