About this deal

Ending up in Le Chat Noir jazz club just off the Boulevard Saint Germain Coco leans lazily into the crook of the Englishman’s arm. However, it doesn't give me the same warm and fuzzy feelings as the 3 previous Chanel fragrances I fell in love with do. For Coco Noir, I thought of Coco and of Coco Mademoiselle too, because it’s also part of the history.

It’s a nice warm scent suitable for colder weather but the patchouli note is just too strong for me. I liked the vanilla in the base, but I wish that I got more vanilla in the base and I find the base far too strong on the earthy patchouli, the spicy and strong frankinscence and cloves, the resinous benzoin and the strong and masculine concentration of woody sandalwood. The representative sprayed a few sample on paper and handed me Blue Parfum, but I was instantly captivated by Coco Noir. It definitely has some Coco Mademoiselle in the opening, but it's so much spicier and richer that nobody would confuse the two. How much do you think they had to pay the magazines like Allure and Cosmo to include it in their "Year's Best" lists?

Now if you are somewhat drawn to Coco Mademoiselle but find her to shrill, sharp and rebellious then maybe this is worth a try. The smell is reminiscent of my grandma when she was going to the opera or concert hall wearing an expensive coat and applying Dior lipstick and powder on her face. Sometimes I prefer CN alone because I like the spicy woodiness, but it pairs well with vanilla scents too.

When I close my eyes and smell Coco Noir, I envision lovely art nouveau buildings, dinners on candle lit balconies in Europe, and expensive dresses.Coco Noir is pretty and elegant and I wouldn't be upset to get a bottle as a gift, but this isn't a love for me. I was gifted this from my mother who thought it smelled like “old women”, but I liked it enough and tried it out. I love my Coco mademoiselle intense and I love Coco mademoiselle both much longer lasting fragrances. My grandma wears the original Coco Chanel and I thought it might be a younger twist on that, but it's very masculine and sandalwood heavy. A: The base notes consist of frankincense, soft musk, vanilla, sandalwood, and Indonesian patchouli, offering a warm and magnetic finish to the scent.

Anyway, my angst about the longevity aside, this scent is kind of a mix between Coco Mad, Allure, and No. It was around my teenage years, especially when I was an avid user of Tumblr, I used to see this perfume in so many stunning photographs and flat lays, so that instantly made me want to pick this up and try it out for myself. The mysterious French night is embodied in the name Chanel Coco Noir, which since its launch in 2012, remains a synonym for the style of the fashion house Chanel for every aficionado of exquisite floral perfume compositions, originated from Paris.
