Fun little kit to paint, exactly once mind you but thats mostly because these are very dense models with a big ass flag. Equipped with large-bore cannons, multi-missile launchers, or heavy, overcharged lascannons, Field Ordnance Batteries are the most powerful man-portable assets available. The design has been completely updated, the fatigues have become more detailed: the trousers now have sewn-on knee pads, the boots are covered by leather gaiters, and the sleeves end in cuffs.

It includes 20 Cadian Shock Troops, a five-man Cadian Command Squad, a Sentinel with Armoured and Scout Sentinel configurations, and two Field Ordnance Teams – the vanguard of a revamped Astra Militarum range. army box, you’ll find 28 all-new models, the new Cadian transfer sheet, the new Astra Militarum Codex with a special collectors edition soft-touch cover, and a set of matching datacards.All in all, these are the most profound changes to the Astra Militarum army list since the change from the Imperial Guard codex of the 3rd to the 4th edition. The fifth model can be a Veteran Guardsman, and you have a choice between a laspistol, bolt pistol, or plasma pistol, and a power sword, chainsword, or power fist. All the classic weapons are back, from heavy bolters to lascannons, and each base contains a massive amount of options to make them stand out.

On the upside, you’re unlikely to take multiple of this squad, so you’ll only have to grind through once, and they wont be obviously repeating in your army.

Abaddon may have destroyed the planet but the surviving Cadians still stand and defend the Imperium from all threats. Amongst the Astra Militarum’s massed regiments, the born soldiers of Cadia are some of the most disciplined warriors to be found, tough marksmen trained for a lifetime of grim duty. The proportions have become much more realistic, the poses more upright, and the heads and helmets smaller, less “heroic scale”.

These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Colour paints. You’ll end up building the Scout version as you’re building the Armored version because both kits use the same roll cage. Building them went fine, nothing was particularly complex to make fit and you’ve got loads of head options and a few special weapons.

The sergeant can get a bolt pistol or laspistol, or a pointing arm, as well as a chainsword, or alternatively a drum-fed autogun. I might have been a little off on the pricing but for the amount of stuff in this box vs Individual MSRP, it’s gonna be a good purchase if you’re an Astra Militarum player. In addition to the miniatures contained in the Army Launch Set, two more classic units are getting a well-earned update. Conscripts, special weapon squads, Veterans and some of the older special characters have been removed, but most army list entries survived, even some for very dated models such as Imperial Priests.
