About this deal

But although you get a tantalizing glimpse of its potential, the view is blocked by a marching-band triplet fill on the drums and some Hornsby-esque piano trills.

The editors of AllMusic scored this album three out of five stars, with reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine noting that Daniel Lanois' original production on Time Out of Mind had a "murkiness [that] nagged at Dylan" and that the recordings are a chronicle of Dylan attempting to find the right sound for these songs. All tracks on disc four are previously unavailable with the exception of "Make You Feel My Love" (May 21, 1998, Los Angeles).

Dylan, who was only 55 at the time, read his resulting lyrics to producer Daniel Lanois, who was stunned by their unearthly power, and the pair headed into the studio to fashion a record falling somewhere between a seance and a last will and testament.

takes a fresh look at ‘Time Out Of Mind’, Dylan's mid-career masterpiece, celebrating the album and its enduring impact 25 years after its original release on September 30, 1997.It includes such iconic songs as “Love Sick”, “Not Dark yet” and “Make You Feel My Love”, which became a modern standard after it was covered by artists as wide ranging as Billy Joel, Garth Brooks and of course Adele. Disc four presents songs from Time Out of Mind in a series of spectacular live performances from 1998-2001. Bob is always capable of pulling surprises within different versions of the same song, so it is all there to argue about, enjoy or not. So in conclusion, I am glad I bought it, it offers more than I thought, although the inclusion of CD 5 is annoying if you bought the deluxe Tell Tale Signs. Rolling Stone 's David Browne gave the album a positive review, writing that the Time Out of Mind sessions deserve the "under-the-microscope treatment".
