About this deal

The exhibition teaches you all about the history of the abbey and artifacts recovered from the monastery. You can take a walk down to the harbour below or take in the incredible views of the coast from clifftops.

There is an audio track playing as you go around but to be honest it's so poorly recorded and differing ones playing so close to each other that it's absolutely useless and the noise freaks you out more than anything in there. Then as the cloud passed, I could see the ruins of the Abbey coming into view; and as the edge of a narrow band of light as sharp as a sword-cut moved along, the church and churchyard became gradually visible… It seemed to me as though something dark stood behind the seat where the white figure shone and bent over it. But, you can drive up to Whitby Abbey or get the Whitby Open Bus tour that runs from the Whitby Visitor Centre in town.

Whitby holds a particular place in Ian’s heart, as the home town of his mother, he regularly visited there and each trip became a pilgrimage taking in the sights and locations that featured within the story. The story is well known worldwide and brought the idea of an undead, blood-thirsty creature into popular culture. Hi Tom, it's not at Whitby - Or, I didn't see it there :( From what I could see the cape sold at auction a while back!

Whether you're sending letters to friends, penning your vampire tales, or simply indulging in elegant correspondence, this set captures the essence of Whitby's unique connection to the Dracula legend. Fans of the vampire have a very strong image who Dracula is and as Ian points out, this includes the bustling seaside town of Whitby. Turns out the symbol used to be been a perfectly acceptable memento mori to be placed on a tombstone. When you make your way to the top of the 199 steps before you reach Whitby Abbey, you’ll be walking through St.It easily connects you with many towns and cities and you can take in some stunning views along the way!

Bram Stoker first visited Whitby in 1890 and checked into a guest-house on the West Cliff overlooking the 199 steps and Whitby Abbey. It features heavily in Bram Stoker’s novel and, you’ll be pleased to know that English Heritage keeps the Dracula theme alive here too. In history, however, Robin Hood’s bay was an important seaport and home to lots of smuggling in the 18th century.

Escape the traffic and travel to Whitby Abbey by train, bus or bicycle and be rewarded with 20% off your walk-up ticket.
