I'm no watercolourist and have minimal knowledge on how best to work watercolour pencils so followed the same concept as I do with acrylics. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. With only 24 colours in the range, it is difficult to find the right one especially for this stunning Red-legged Honeycreeper as there is only the Ocean blue colour in the set that comes close to the blues on this bird and that was quite a muted tone. In the 24 set of Derwent Graphitint, 19 of them are rated 6 and above, which is an excellent ratio in my opinion. The more water applied to each colour, the less lightfast it becomes - be careful around colours such as pinks and purples that have low lightfast numbers as these will fade far quicker than stronger colours.Use them dry when you want to add just a hint of colour, or add water to create richer, more vibrant effects. Personally, I prefer this method for detail as the pencil "leads" are a bit soft to take a very fine point but a fine brush can do it. The Derwent Graphitint Paint Pan Set includes 12 pans of water-soluble paint made from a unique blend of graphite with colour. I attempted to erase some of the blue colour to see how well I could remove it but was never able to fully erase the tinge. In terms of the set itself, it comes in exactly the same kind of box as the Inktense pan sets, including a sponge, a waterbrush and five mixing areas inside the lid.

Once dry it turns into a dark grey and it may be best to apply the black pencil dry to keep it's strength.Recently Derwent released a companion set of 12 more Inktense pan colours (with all new colours not included in the original set), a 24 colour Inktense pan set (which I believe contains all the same colours as the 24 block sets) and a 12 colour set of Graphitint pans. Derwent Graphitint Paint features fine graphite particles that settle into the paper grain to create a myriad of effects. It is perfect for taking out sketching allowing the artist to work dry in monochrome and to add water with a brush where colour emphasis is needed. Graphitint has the same properties as our 4B Watersoluble Sketching pencil so it will appeal to artists looking to add a colourful dimension to their graphite drawings but retain all the familiar qualities of their favourite graphite pencil. I found that all of the colours had significant granulation when applied to watercolour paper, which makes for interesting effects, but can be challenging if you wanted some completely smooth areas of colour.

Apply these paints on NOT (Cold Pressed) watercolour paper to bring out beautiful granulation and passages of tone and colour. A tin containing 12 Graphitint Pencils (port, aubergine, dark indigo, slate green, ivy, chestnut, cool grey, cocoa, storm, midnight black, cloud grey and cool grey). Graphite and colour combine to create this unique formulation of watercolour pencil pigments and graphite. A rating between 0 - 8 is given to each colour with 0 being extremely poor lightfast and 8 being the most lightfast.

When used dry, Graphitint provides just a hint of colour but adding water transforms the tint into rich, shimmering shades with an underlying, graphite sheen. The colours included in this set are Port, Juniper, Aubergine, Dark Indigo, Steel Blue, Ocean Blue, Slate Green, Green Grey, Meadow, Russet, Autumn Brown, Graphite Grey. As I have mentioned, the Derwent Graphitint range are a watersoluable pencil which can be used as a conventional dray pencil medium, but should not necessarily be used in this way due to the muted colours. A few years ago I purchased a tin of Derwent Graphitint pencils being a fan of graphite pencils I thought it was such a great concept to add a hint of colour to my graphite drawings using these pencils.
