About this deal

I use the term ‘input device’ because I’m not really much of a keyboard player, and whereas a piano player might find the absence of anything like a pivot action, never mind a weighted action, a little disconcerting, I actually found it liberating and very forgiving of my somewhat limited technique. It is wonderful to be able to connect without wires to your iPad, MacBook, Windows laptop, or Chromebook. There is a slight bend if you’re not on a flat surface so I’d say that if you’re using it on a stand, to have some form of support underneath. However, it’s a decent function for players with spider fingers or those looking to use one hand on the keyboard and the other to fiddle with the function buttons – and let’s not forget that sustain can be found on most software. As a music teacher and a musician–there are few occurrences where I am bursting with excitement about a product.

Another issue is that when you are trying to recharge the keyboard with USB, there's no way to switch it to just USB; this results in two MIDI inputs which then jam your software (Finale again). I followed the instructions and paired the keyboard with my iPad Pro and received a warning from garage band that there may be some latency.

However if you find yourself traveling a lot and you need a portable MIDI controller that feels right and fits in your bag right, the CME Xkey would be ideal for you.

You can tell whether a page is secure as 'https' will replace the 'http' at the front of the kennysmusic. The black keys are very slightly raised above the white ones, and all of them trigger consistently along their entire length - again, this can only help in terms of playability. On a first sight and touch they appear more like a computer keyboard rather than a piano keyboard (they have a shallow travel for example and are spaced widely), however I may assure you they are very expressive and I was able to dig in right into playing with some synths and even Rhodes piano and acoustic piano patches without feeling I am somehow limited, having a lot of fun and inspiration! There are a few others too, but some one them I tried out at guitar center and I hated the keys probably worse then I would hate xkey. Also if you’re like me with a few retro sound modules, the option of being able to plug in a MIDI cable is another huge bonus. Also, if I was the teacher and I did any work at all in GarageBand (SoundTrap, Soundation) or notation programs, I would want a portable keyboard, particularly if the device I was using was a portable device (MacBook, iPad, Chromebook).
