About this deal

With an obnoxious neighbour and a run down castle on her hands Grace wonders if she has made a huge mistake coming home, but will the villagers welcome her or not? Heartcross sounds like an idyllic place to visit, from the Scottish countryside to life in a small village. Christie Barlow is the number one international bestselling author of seventeen romantic comedies including the iconic Love Heart Lane Series, A Home at Honeysuckle Farm and Kitty's Countryside Dream. It is hard with some, though – Jenny Colgan’s I can’t work out from anywhere as they seem to jump numbers! As she travels to Heartcross we get to find out more about her past as well as see what her friendships are like through her childhood best friends Felicity, Allie and Isla.

When Christie isn’t writing she enjoys playing the piano, is a keen gardener and loves to paint and upcycle furniture. The community welcomes Grace back with open arms and starts to help her rebuild, and it is nothing less than we expect. Continuing with my NetGalley reads, this one just happens to have been published in December but doesn’t have a Christmas or wintry theme – however it is a good read that has pulled me into the world of quite a long series!Nervous about how the people she left behind will react Grace arrives back in Heartcross and soon realises it’s the least of her worries as she discovers her once luxurious home has seen better days. It’s always a bad sign for a relationship when there’s an engagement at the start of a novel, and so it happens here: young Grace (we realise later she can only be 16 or so), who has run away from home after an argument with her grandfather, accepts the proposal of her boyfriend even though she has severe misgivings about his temper already, because she’s poor and alone and pregnant.

I really enjoyed watching Grace go from a defeated, abused woman to a fierce mother of three who was willing to do anything to ensure their happiness. There is always so much more going on in these books than a love story, and this book is a prime example of the complexity of issues that can be explored. Still, it is a safe refuge for Grace and her boys as the latter start to thrive in this wonderful environment. I’m looking forward to reading the others in the series, and I don’t think I really grasped who was with whom and what businesses they ran so should be OK with potentially having read all the spoilers for the whole series!

I recommend reading Love Heart Lane Until one day a letter from the solicitor comes to tell her her grandfather has passed away and she has inherited Heartcross Castle. I am always pleased when Christie Barlow releases another Love Heart Lane story, they are always full of family, friendship and love, and I am pleased to confirm that Heartcross Castle is no exception! I personally find Christie’s writing style so easy to read and enjoy which made this book a delight to read and meant I flew through it so quickly I was left wanting more! He was a TV superstar and she was a down-to-earth, frazzled mother of three trying to make ends meet.
