About this deal

Then: Jenna, let down by her entire family, needs a break, a retreat where she will find peace and meaning. Despite my unfavorable review, I'd still like to extend my thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for my review copy. Second is Kate, who runs the retreats and will do anything to be sure that nothing negatively affects the SoulShrink brand. Tom has been tight lipped about Jenna, but Fran wants the truth, and is soon attending Tom’s next retreat. It centers primarily on Fran, who joins a wellness retreat to try to figure out what happened to her sister Jenna, who disappeared on a similar trip over 2 years prior.

Fran, an ICT teacher watches proceedings carefully as her younger sister Jenna disappeared from the Gozo retreat.I like the first half of the book which looks at the dynamics of several relationships especially Tom and Kate. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those who like mysteries and domestic suspense. Firstly, that Tom would have been allowed to restart his business after two people died and a third disappeared at his last retreat. She’s clearly upset and traumatized BUT why on earth would you send your only surviving daughter into the clutches of the man you believe to be responsible for your youngest daughters’ death?

She meets the couple Kate and Tom who ran the retreat in Gaza along with three others who were also there.Present day: Fran, an information and communications technology teacher, has a vested interest in what the Wades do next because her younger sister Jenna vanished from the same Gozo retreat, leaving all her possessions in her room and blood on the rocks. Some reviewers said there were plot lines left unresolved, but I actually think that was done purposely, allowing the reader to make their own decisions about the true motivations of some of the characters. And Kate is the wife and resilient assistant of Tom who tries to keep together after murder accusations ruined their lives financially and mentally.

This one features a particularly unlikeable cast of characters, (not necessarily a bad thing but you do actually need one protagonist to care about) and confuses the reader further by having many of them change names. Secondly, why would anyone sign up for his retreats after what happened, including people who attended the Gozo retreat?Overall, it’s a pity the book tails off as I was enjoying the first half and I usually really like this authors books but I don’t think this one is up there with her best.
