About this deal

I’ve been a fan of Clover’s work since 1992, but I’ve never though of Dog Soldiers in these terms before, so I’m grateful for what Peirse has accomplished here.

The regular Blu-ray and 4K versions, and a Limited Edition which has both included in one of Second Sight’s lovely slipcases. That’s a big reason why the genre has proven so versatile: audiences are already familiar with the basic conceit, and that fact frees filmmakers to spend more time working it into different contexts. Marshall served as his own editor, and he wisely chose not to linger on the monsters, cutting around them quickly instead. Either way, these are the exact same soundtracks as in previous versions, with identical strengths and weaknesses (including the same loud popping sounds at a couple of points).Flesh Tones: Skin tones are a bit washed, as is the aesthetic of the film, and consistent the whole way through. Filmed in 2001 and released in 2002, Dog Soldiers is the film that put director Neil Marshall ( Centurion, The Descent) on the map for movie fans.

The characters of the squad are so memorable, their interactions and that gallows humour which feels so natural and organic, give them life. Video Disclaimer: Screen captures used in the review are taken from the standard Blu-ray disc, not the 4K UHD Blu-ray disc. have to give props to the production team, many of whom hail from hardscrabble Newcastle, my father's birthplace.

The 2002 short featurette The Making of Dog Soldiers is also missing, as is the collection of B-roll footage, and the EPK interviews with members of the cast and crew. The special features are, as we’ve come to expect from Second Sight, fairly comprehensive, and there’s more than enough on offer to sate the appetites of even the hungriest Dog Soldiers fan. This version comes complete with a new book filled with essays and behind-the-scenes details, along with the obligatory selection of art cards.

In many respects it’s an ‘old fashioned’ film, and that is no bad thing, using characters and narrative as the story unfolds, with a few twists and complexities on the way.On the other hand, the making-off features are wonderful (as you would expect from a Marshall film if we are being honest).
