About this deal

It brilliant first use of steady cams also done by a cinematographer who worked with Stanley Kubrick – also the bands are filmed from the stage showing the audience going absolutely mental. but has additional specials and selecter tracks so well worth the investment if you can find a copy! The Dance Craze film has long been notoriously “unreleased” and “unavailable” because of copyright and ownership disputes. I guess the normal bullshit over contracts and record labels meant they had to be taken off the CD which was released a good 10 years after the sad farewell to 2 Tone. Uno de ellos un tanto redundante, porque 2 son la banda sonora del documental y el tercero el disco que salió en 1981 con canciones de la banda sonora.

The soundtrack now comes back out on these special expanded editions with original poster (or facsimile of it I guess). Her glamorous approach to the music was solidly based in the vaudeville tradition, the accompaniment dominated by jazzy horns and flowery piano. But the first two decades of recorded blues were a veritable goldmine of acoustic guitar brilliance. At the height of the 2-tone ska movement came Dance Craze, a comprehensive music video film charting the best of the 1970s and 80s ska craze in Britain - a movement dominated by such greats as The Specials, Madness, The Selecter and Bad Manners. Records that aren't in picture sleeves will either be in a company sleeve or a generic plain sleeve. I bought the vinyl when it was released a year later and was blown away then and this CD bought it all back.

This new expanded Deluxe Edition 3 disc box set features the previously unreleased 27 track flm soundtrack, along with the original 14 track vinyl album. Dance Craze is a 1981 concert film recorded at various venues throughout 1980 at the height of the 2Tone movement featuring exclusive live recordings by The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, The Beat, Bad Manners and The Bodysnatchers, this new expanded edition features the previously unreleased 27 track soundtrack, along with the original 14 track vinyl album, remastered from the original production masters. While we wait for March to get here, take a look at my personal reflections on the classic soundtrack album, Dance Craze and My Higher Education. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. The audio packages are released on 24 March via Chrysalis and the Blu-ray/DVD edition is released by the BFI on 27 March. The legendary concert film recorded at various venues in 1980 at the height of the 2 Tone movement, plus the unreleased 27 track film soundtrack and original 14 track album. There’s a special launch screening at the BFI IMAX cinema in London on 22 March, although it has already sold out. Outside of rare screenings of well-preserved prints, most fans have seen it only via VHS bootlegs and hideous blurry YouTube uploads with muffled sound.

The set also includes a copy of the original poster featuring photos of all the groups, and the film poster. While mammoth memory-laners like 'Night Boat To Cairo' do feature here, there are also many lesser-spotted gems, such as Bad Manners' organ-scraping 'Inner London Violence' and 'Ranking Full Stop', a quadruple-time highlight from The English Beat. Dance Craze only ever made it to VHS, so a new 4K restoration by the BFI ( from original film materials) sees it newly available as a Blu-ray+DVD package. There are differences to the ‘film’ mixes and in the cases of The Selecter and Bad Manners, the recordings are from different concerts. Brilliant versions of all the tracks on it, a personal highlight being the best ever version of Nite Klub by the Specials. The deluxe soundtrack is coming from Chrysalis/2 Tone, whose recent reissues have seen widespread American release, so that should be no problem.
