About this deal

This is a very simple take that game which will either be a hit with your gaming group or fall flat.

You're not defenseless though; you can reveal your own matching assets or wild cards to protect your top set. For instance, do you play a pair of assets from your hand, or use that pair to have two chances to steal somebody else's assets? This now becomes a larger, much more valuable stack of assets that gets placed upon the winner’s pile. Hardcore Eurogamers probably won't care for it as much, but it plays pretty quickly so you might convince them to join in. Here you’ll find all our top game recommendations so you and your family can play only the best games together! If you have two matching assets, or any asset and a wild card (Gold or Silver), you may play them face-up in your asset stack.

After performing that action, you (and any other players who played cards during your turn) draw back up to four cards. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Condé Nast. In Cover Your Assets, players compete to become the first millionaire by building towers of matching sets made from 10 different types of asset cards (things like jewels, piggy banks, classic autos, and more). Every time somebody tries to steal assets, whether they're successful or not, that particular set of assets increases in value, making it a bigger target for all the other players.

Even with the three decks of cards, the game was overwhelming and not fun because it was never your turn to play. I think, given how easy it is to block (and how helpful blocking is), there’s a real incentive to just make your own piles and let well enough alone for players that don’t like take-that. It helps if you play while putting on posh accents and laughing evilly, as I assume the idle rich tend to do. Now, if you lay down a stamp collection pair, for example, anyone else with a stamp collection card (or wild) can opt to steal the pair from you. I’ll likely try to do more in the future (Skull King is part of a trilogy of card games, so I’m hoping they end up bringing the other two over from Europe), but for now I’m looking at Cover Your Assets, a game about high-value stuff collection and, of course, its inevitable theft.

At the start of the game everyone is dealt a hand of four cards with the remaining cards forming a draw pile. Once the last card has been played, players add up the total face value of their cards and mark it on a sheet. And by more I mean, be warned, this game is so fun it may quickly go from “filler” to “holy cow, did we really just play that for 2 hours straight! The game plays with 4-6 players, and is a great for mixed groups as kids, teens, parents, and grandparents alike can learn the game in minutes and enjoy it for hours. The winner of the challenge takes all cards used in the challenge and combines them with the asset pile, making a huge (and valuable) set of assets that they place on top of their pile. You’ll also get table talk where people tell you to steal from someone else, which is generally amusing. The winner of the challenge then takes ALL of the cards used in the challenge and combines them with the original set of cards they fought over. If you have two of the same cards in your hand, you may make a pair of them and place them face-up in front of you in your Asset pile.

Sometimes that gold mine stack everyone’s had their eye on will be exposed at JUST the right time for you to swoop in and snatch it for the victory. The stakes are high in this high-energy, competitive, and cut-throat, set-collection card game from Grandpa Beck’s Games! The player can defend themselves by playing another card from their hand either matching the asset or a wild. If you cannot make a pair or challenge, then you would need to discard a card from your hand into the discard pile.Your first pair is safe and cannot be stolen; any stacks that are covered by other stacks are also safe . You can use it as a last-ditch save to protect your stuff from getting jacked, but you are telegraphing to every other player at that point that you have no other cards of that type left, so that might also not be super worth it. It was a full 6-player game and there were lots of attempts to steal assets from each others’ piles.
