About this deal

Bill Evans and Jim Hall in particular were kindred spirits, sharing a love of chamber jazz, and Hall had already demonstrated his skill in Jimmy Giuffre’s trio. Neither musician is trying to dominate the conversation but just attempting to enhance each others playing in a quiet sensitive way. I was chilling to this disc the other day, nodding my head to this oh-so-natural music and wishing I had half of Evans' talent. DOL do not indicate the source of their recordings, but on my system this LP, and the others I have, sound much like older CDs.

There is more variety than expected on the fine set with some cookers, ballads, waltzes, and even some hints at classical music.Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has been the undisputed pioneer and leader in audiophile recordings since the company's inception in 1977.

We will introduce you exclusively to Duologi finance products provided by Specialist Lending Ltd t/a Duologi through the Deko platform. Some reissues include four bonus tracks, including two alternate takes and previously unheard versions of "Stairway to the Stars" and "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You. The results of these sessions were quite the opposite, though, thanks to the tranquil and poetic use of space which gives Undercurrent its uniquely relaxed, and relaxing, quality.I think I can safely say, though, that UNDERCURRENT is the current "hot ticket" out of all my jazz discs. Già la perfetta fattura e la cura nel dettaglio dell'intera copertina lascia presagire qualcosa di eccellente che si comprende appieno dopo aver ascolto anche solo il primo brano del side 1.

And maybe I'm totally wrong here but, wasn't this record released on the United Artists Jazz label in 1962 - and not on Blue Note as stated on the jacket and mofi labels? I am not generally a fan of Bill Evans (wash your mouth out with soap and water) but have always admired Jim Hall. The cover of the album doesn’t feature any names or even a title, just a mysterious black and white photograph of a woman floating, Ophelia-like, in dark water. If it was hard to believe earlier that there weren’t three players, here it’s difficult to accept there’s more than one, so unified and harmonious are Hall and Evans in their playing. Bill Evans catapulted to the top of the jazz world in June 1961 after reeling off three straight masterpiece sessions at New York's Village Vanguard with his trio. If there is a certificate we’ve missed out on then it’s probably for a 50 metre swim badge at the local swimming baths. I was fortunate to find a VG copy of this early pressing which cleaned up beautifully, no crackles nor surface noise of any kind.

I have a nearly perfect copy except for smudges and I don't know how to clean it, or if that is possible. The first of two meetings on record in a duo format with guitarist Jim Hall, the collaborations are often exquisite. I also love "Skating In Central Park" which sways along with gently caressed piano chords and a delightfully subdued guitar lead. For Evans, the duet clearly functions as therapy, a healing episode in which his partner patiently lays back, shadowing moves and suggesting others, neither musician interested in the spotlight but each striving for (and achieving) transcendent beauty. If not for an inspirational collaboration of tremendous creative outpouring, one wonders what fate may have befallen Evans.

They were part of a circle of musicians in New York in the early sixties, centred on George Russell, and including Jimmy Giuffre and Gil Evans, all united in a common aesthetic. On Skating in Central Park that chiming guitar sound becomes a dominant feature and, set against it, Evans is wittily wistful and melancholy, each piano note precise and clear cut until he smoothly recedes into the background and lets Hall take centre stage. The record is noise free, but does an impressive job of capturing musical nuance and delivering a deep emotional experience. I simply can't stop playing this disc and have made a copy for the car and also put it on my iPad, sitting, walking or driving I'm thrilled by it and always hear something new.
