About this deal

The telling difference would be that this particular shove would occur while Fiedler was standing at the edge of the platform as the IRT train bulleted into the station. Stedge seemed to approve my wisdom and, as he reached for a pair of handcuffs in his pants pocket, I lunged forward and my already outstretched right hand yanked Stedge’s . I'm not sure how this could possibly turn into a series of books, but I'd be down for it if the author wants to give them to us. The book-within-a-book’s author, McMasters dean Harbinger Harrow, chronicles the experiences of three students to educate at-home pupils by example.

Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if the object of your affliction ceased to exist? Maybe I missed something or maybe it just went over my head, but as I was paying very close attention given that this was a mystery, I highly doubt it. Decent character development brings Cliff Iverson to life and helps shape those with whom he comes in contact. Welcome to The McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts – a luxurious, clandestine college dedicated to the fine art of murder where earnest students study how best to “delete” their most deserving victim. The only other way out of the room was the fire escape to the street eight stories below, and with flight being evidence of guilt, I summoned all the bravado left in me and discovered there was none. I wanted to see them woven together, or for something to bring the various characters and plots together (ideally in a way that would give them a bit more actual character work), but it was just three chopped up accounts of three unconvincingly elaborate plans to kill people, and by the end I will admit to skimming. A delightful mix of witty wordplay, breathtaking twists and genuine intrigue, Murder Your Employer will gain you admission into a wholly original world, cocooned within the most entertaining book about well-intentioned would-be murderers you'll ever read. Face down, I entered the thick of seething pedestrians, all with missions of their own but surely none like the one I’d just completed.

Brilliant concept: a finishing school for would-be murderers teaching you how to do it and get away with it. The sequel to It Ends With Us (2016) shows the aftermath of domestic violence through the eyes of a single mother.I know I'm largely in the minority on this book and I'm glad to see that other readers got out of it what I was hoping for. The concept of the book “A murderer’s finishing school” is pretty clever, and I liked the stories of the M. Once Cliff, Dulcie, and Gemma graduate, we follow them into the world as they scheme to complete their thesis projects—that is, as they attempt to “delete” their targets. But then the book kind of deviates from its entire concept: it being a manual and it including written reports of these students.

Holmes’ witticisms, tasteful and at just the right frequency, genuinely had me snorting in amusement. Baltimore engineer Cliff Iverson, British hospital worker Gemma Lindley, and incognito Hollywood star Dulcie Mown may hail from different walks of life, but all are at McMasters for the same reason: to learn how to kill their sadistic employers without getting caught.

The campus of this "Poison Ivy League" college-its location unknown to even those who study there-is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

I allowed myself two seconds to straighten my hair and appraise my demeanor in the changing room’s mirror. I loved the setting of the school, from classes to the assignments given to through the eyes of our main characters. You bought a ticket at the newsreel theater early this morning, watched until the hour of short subjects repeated itself, got into your clever camouflage, somehow lured Fiedler onto the subway platform—I’ll give you an A for that—then you did your nasty little deed and raced into the basement level of Brandt’s to lose your disguise.I literally only realized it was set in the chosen decade after an explicit mention of the fact past the 90% mark. I’m honestly not sure that any book exclusively about murder has the right to be so wonderfully wholesome, but this one is. I had fun finding out everyone's motivations, and the side characters felt fleshed out as well as the main cast, with Doria definitely taking the number one spot in my heart (sorry Cliff).
